Something knocks on my bedroom door 3 times at 3 in the morning

Something knocks on my bedroom door 3 times at 3 in the morning.

We share another experience that recently arrived in the email of the Paranormal Clinic of . At the end we will analyze the case.

***

I was lying in bed with my phone. I heard my brother leave his room; so I figured he had probably gone to sleep with my parents, something he frequently does. A couple of minutes later I heard three knocks on my bedroom door, very clear. I assumed she was my mother (sometimes he comes to check that she is sleeping). I turned off the phone and pretended to be asleep. In the back of my head I knew something strange was going on. Why would my mother knock on the door in the middle of the night? Generally, she opens it without announcing herself (see: One knock: “YES”; two knocks: “NO”; three knocks: “LET ME IN”).

When I realized that no one was coming in, I called out his name. There was no answer. That’s when I got up and opened the door. There was no one in the hallway.

This was repeated for several nights. I mean, hearing three knocks on my door between 2:50 and 3:00 in the morning. At first, this happened whenever she was awake, but a couple of nights ago it happened while she was sleeping: there were three knocks on my door, and my reaction was to respond:

-Yeah?

Again, I got no response. I didn’t go out into the hallway to check that no one was there.

Any ideas on what may be happening?

There is an old superstition about these three knocks on the door, without apparent cause, known as Death Knocks. Supposedly, the three blows herald a death.

Sometimes this news is received after three days, three weeks or three months, according to legend, depending on what the person answers. For example, if you hear knocking on the door and respond: “Come in,” the consequences will occur in three days.

Superstitions like this persist because it is very easy to reinforce them. If we believe that three knocks predict a death, we will be much more attentive to news of a death after hearing them. This is known as confirmation bias, and there is nothing paranormal about it. However, it is the cause of the blows that interests us here.

The three knocks or scratches on the door are signs that were recorded in numerous medieval grimoires, and even in works of the Holy Inquisition, such as the Malleus Maleficarum. In this context, the three strikes are always related to demons (see: Things in your house that can attract demons), with the number three being the typical mockery of demonic entities to the Holy Trinity.

Within the paranormal realm, these types of phenomena occur most frequently in transitional spaces within the house, such as doors, windows, hallways, stairs, and rarely within a particular room.

In any case, the blows are a demonstration; and just as some spirits can appear in mirrors, in dreams, or by generating a dense atmosphere around the person they are interested in, and even through smells (see: Entities that manifest themselves through aroma), some simply make noise to announce themselves (see: Entities that obsess over the living).

These beats are known as raps, and they emerged as a way to contact spirits from the rise of spiritualism during the 19th century. According to this view, the spirits of the dead are not only capable of communicating with the living through various objects, smells, and sounds, but they are also eager to engage in such communication.

However, this phenomenon is considerably different from the three knocks on the door or walls, which seem to only occur in the early morning hours (see: What happens at 03:33 in the morning?)

In any case, paranormal knocks differ from ordinary sounds that can be produced on the same surface. That is to say that if one tries to replicate them, for example, on the same door where he heard them in the first place, they will sound different. The original sound is dry, of medium intensity, and fades away quickly. It is really uncommon for a series of blows to be repeated for a long time.

When knocks occur on walls, they seem to come from inside them, or from the other side of the wall, never from inside the room where the person who hears them is located. The same goes for doors and windows (see: Signs that there is a spirit in your house).

Now, what is the meaning of knocks on doors, walls and windows?

There is no conclusive answer for all cases. Sometimes the blows function as a kind of signature, an announcement, that foreshadows other phenomena that are less easy to identify but equally terrifying, such as the feeling that someone is touching us (see: When something invisible touches you) or breathing on our face ( see: When something invisible breathes in your face). The blows, in this case, constitute the first phase of the poltergeist phenomenon.

Sometimes unexplained bumps have a less ominous origin than is believed. They may simply be astral parasites capable of negatively charging an environment (see: Spirits and “charged environments”), and not much more. The phenomenon fades in a few days although the opposite can also occur. If these entities are numerous, they can infect the entire house (see: Astral Infection: houses taken over by spirits).

Within parapsychology it is assumed that every paranormal shock, that is, without an apparent cause or explanation, is a sign that something is trying to get our attention.

Although it may be a phenomenon capable of producing fear, it is actually a gesture of courtesy. A force is capable of producing three blows on a door or a wall, it could well do so on the person’s face. In this sense, when phenomena are repeated three times, I insist, in an inexplicable context, it is generally considered to be of supernatural origin. There’s not much more we know.

Now, assuming something is trying to get attention, what is its ultimate purpose? What do you want to communicate?

There is not much we can conjecture about it. What we can say is that these types of phenomena occur in a broader context. The knocks themselves may come out of nowhere, seemingly, but the person who heard them can surely tell that the house they live in, or for that matter the room where they sleep, has gone through some substantial changes.

A person who has suffered a recent loss is likely to experience powerful emotions, usually by withdrawing into his or her room. In this sense, the sudden manifestation of paranormal events, and their repetitive nature, above all, can be explained in that context (Are ghosts “recordings” printed in reality?).

Drawing conclusions from a series of three inexplicable blows would be premature, at best, or downright irresponsible. However, we can find other clues by analyzing the emotions of the listener. How do you feel when you hear these knocks? Fear Do you feel intimidated? (see: Feeling that there is a spirit at home)

Significant emotional reactions can say a lot about the intention behind the phenomenon.
