True story of an imaginary friend written by a girl

True story about an imaginary friend written by a girl.

All the great authors of the horror story, from Edgar Allan Poe to HP Lovecraft, or Algernon Blackwood to Stephen King, would have given anything to preserve that subtle link that children have with the supernatural, not as something objective, but as an expansion of reality.

Unfortunately, reason objectifies our demons, identifies them, classifies them, turns them into more or less solid entities against which we can fight, or at least hide from them with a certain degree of effectiveness.

Children, on the other hand, admit the inadmissible, live carelessly with the inexplicable, and often tell it in an even more chilling way than the great masters of horror could.

Below we share an impressive horror story about an imaginary friend written and illustrated by a girl, perhaps, a future heir to the great Gothic storytellers.

Lisa’s story.

This is Lisa. She is my friend. My mom and dad can’t see her and that’s why they say she is my imaginary friend. Lisa is a very good friend.

Today I tried to plant a flower in the garden. I tried to plant it next to the sandbox but Lisa says that’s where her dad is sleeping, so I planted it in a little mound of dirt.

Today Lisa went to school with me. She brought it to her to introduce her, but Mrs. Monroe got angry because she can’t see it. Lisa got angry and then she hid the blackboard eraser.

Yesterday was my birthday party. Mom bought pizza but no one came. Lisa says people came up to the porch and then left. But they left gifts. I got three Barbies, some shoes and five dollars. Lisa and I played with the Barbies.

Mrs. Monroe was absent today. The substitute teacher’s name is Mrs. Digman. She is cute and nice and lets us eat snacks before lunch. She wishes Mrs. Digman would still be our teacher.

Today Jonnathin Parker stole my holster. Mrs. Digman couldn’t find it, and so she ordered him to give me her pencils. Lisa also went to school but Mrs. Digman cannot see her, although she says that she believes Lisa is real.

Yesterday Lisa and I went for a long walk until the moon came out. Dad got really angry and said Lisa was stupid and fake. Lisa got sad and disappeared. She didn’t come to school today but Mrs. Digman says Mrs. Monroe won’t be coming back.

Yesterday Dad was at work all day. He didn’t even come back for dinner. Today he is still at work. Mom made me some pudding for my lunch. My favorite.

I miss Lisa. Dad is really busy at work. He didn’t come home all weekend. Mom is angry with him. I’m going to write a letter to Lisa.

Dear Lisa: I miss you. Please come back. I’m so sorry my dad was bad. You are my best friend.

Lisa came back yesterday. She said that she was sorry for leaving me and I told her that my dad still hadn’t come home. Lisa says he and Mrs. Monroe are sleeping like her dad. I hope they wake up soon.
