“The Book of Shadows”: Gerald Gardner.

The Book of Shadows is a book of witchcraft by one of the most prominent figures in the Wicca religion: Gerald Gardner—author of Witchcraft Today and The Meaning of Witchcraft. )—, published in the late 1940s.

Gerald Gardner’s Book of Shadows have become a structural part of the Wicca religion. Originally each coven or meeting group had its own Book of Shadows, protected by the zeal of its authorities; but over time they returned to the old tradition, where each witch managed her own Book of Shadows, writing down botanical and magical observations whose purpose was to preserve the knowledge acquired.

In this case we are not talking about a community work, but rather a book written by Gerald Gardner and edited by Doreen Valiente, one of the most prepared disciples of the Wiccan movement.

The Book of Shadows presents a good number of spells based both on the personal experiences of its authors and on classic works, for example: Aradia, or the Gospel of the Witches, some grimoires and certain visions and formulas of Aleister Crowley
