You got me (a letter to the man in my life)

I looked at you like it was the first time we were seeing each other. It must have been the hundredth – or even more – but I still felt so much overflowing in my chest as if we had stopped in time. I moved your hair like someone who doesn’t want anything, and I watched your half-boy, half-man way, while watching something on your cell phone. So mine, I thought to myself. So beautiful.

I remembered our first kiss, the butterflies in my stomach and all those sensations from the very beginning. I thought of your affection for me, how you look at me as if I were the most fragile person in the world and how you committed to always taking care of me. And take care. Take care of my life as if it were yours, because in a way, it is. We have each other. And I love knowing that.

Maybe you don’t know, but every now and then I look at you without you noticing and I think about how lucky I am to have you by my side. I smile with my eyes and look at yours, thinking about what they’ve seen and how many stories we’ve shared together. How many plans, how many dreams. And it’s amazing to know that I’m part of all your dreams too.

You have me. Every little bit of me is also yours. The smiles I give are the causes and consequences of yours. Every hug that makes my world vibrate with happiness is part of the thousands of reasons you give me to be happy every day. And each day that passes, you become more present inside.

Now we are part of the clichés. Even unintentionally, you came into my life in a way I didn’t even expect. It made me see the world differently. It made me see that even on gray days, I can color the sky the color I want. It made me see how beautiful life is when shared with someone we love. Even seeing a movie on a rainy Sunday afternoon can become the best day in the world when you’re in it.

They say that when time passes, the feeling calms down. The flame goes out. I do not think so. I think as time passes, we have even more reason to trust each other. We have more shared stories. More desire to be more, to be present for each other. Love grows. The feeling increases. It’s a merry-go-round of feelings, and it’s good to know we’re on it together.

After all, you have me. And I have you. Here inside the chest, outside of it, and wherever you want. Here at home, in yours, in ours. In the whole world, and in our world too.
