Day of Our Lady of Sorrows: prayers to receive her intercession

This Tuesday, September 15th, the Day of Our Lady of Sorrows. Her name refers to the Seven Sorrows of the Virgin Mary and, therefore, her image is represented by the same number of swords crossing her immaculate heart. She is also known as Nossa Senhora da Piedade.

The world and people are not always fair to us. It is common to hear stories of people who “took justice into their own hands”. This is not a Christian way. If you have a clear conscience, pray for the one who wronged you, don’t be shaken and believe in divine justice.

Our Lady of Sorrows is one of the ways to venerate Mary, mother of Jesus, by Catholics and the faithful in general around the world. She can help us to overcome the pain of the wronged and all other wounds: just have faith and believe in the power of the saint. Ask for his intercession and receive!

Prayer to ward off troubles

“O! Holy Mary, at the foot of Calvary you were able to taste all the pain that your beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, suffered in expiation of our sins. Seeing the wounds, the whips, the crown of thorns, the nails and the cross, you left your mother’s heart in the hands of God. Help us to contemplate the cross of our lives and remove the swords that pierce our heart. That from suffering and the presence of death we can fill ourselves with hope to contemplate the resurrection Protect us, Mother Mary, so that we feel your strength in our lives. Remove all the problems that afflict us and that we know how to work and have justice as one of the main models of our existence. Pray to God for us. Amen!”

Prayer to End Suffering

“Glorified be you, Our Lady of Sorrows, for your devotion to the principles of Christian doctrine and for your unconditional participation in the moments of greatest suffering of Jesus Christ in his redemption. Glorified be you, Our Lady, who at the foot of the cross wept for Jesus, for his wounds, for his difficulties, supporting him and showing solidarity with such pain. Glorified be you, Our Lady, for embracing Jesus who gave his life for us, for our sins. Glorified be you, Our Lady of Sorrows, protector also of just causes and for showing the world that love is above everything and everyone. Our Lady, pray for us sinners. Amen!”

Prayer for the end of anguish

“Give us, Lady, the grace to understand the ocean of anguish that made you the ‘Mother of Sorrows’, so that we can participate in your sufferings and console you for our love and our fidelity. We cry with you, O queen of martyrs , in the hope of having happiness, one day we will rejoice with you in heaven. Amen!”

Prayer for forgiveness

“My most sorrowful mother, I do not want to leave you alone to cry, but I also want to accompany you with my tears. This grace I ask of you today: obtain for me a continuous remembrance and a tender devotion to the passion of Jesus and yours, so that all The days that I have left of my life will only serve me to weep over your pains and those of my Redeemer. They will obtain for me forgiveness, perseverance, heaven, where I hope to sing the infinite mercy of the Father for all eternity. Amen!”
