All Souls’ Day: Prayers to Intercede for the Departed

Today, November 2, is celebrated the All Souls’ Day – in honor of all those who have departed this plane. It is a moment dedicated to reflection in memory of those loved ones we miss.

On the date, it is common to light candles, pray and go to mass. The good intention is able to send positive energies to those souls who now live with God. Check out some prayers that can be said and learn more about the history of the holiday!

How did the date come about?

Masses in memory of people who died had their origin in the 4th century, but it was only in the following century that a day was consecrated for this celebration. The date chosen was November 2, because the 1st of that same month is All Saints’ Day and the religious believed that, after death, people entered a state of grace, even though they were not canonized.

Although we receive comfort from other people when a loved one is gone, pain, sadness and longing are normal feelings of grief, because getting over the loss of someone special is not an easy mission. However, instead of asking God the reason for leaving, we can seek comfort in his arms to understand that death is a natural event and we are on Earth just passing through.

When you find yourself in this situation, ask the Father to help you gain strength to overcome this difficult time and find joy again on your way. All Souls’ Day is the ideal time to reach this grace.
