In the 19th century, before analgesic drugs existed, sulfur water baths were widely used to relieve physical pain. Since then, the ritual has become a tradition not only for its therapeutic effect, but also as a source of well-being. ”Sulphur, its main ingredient, helps with respiratory system crises, inflammatory processes, skin allergies and muscle tension, among other benefits. For those who are healthy, it improves blood circulation, relaxes muscles and invigorates the body”, justifies physiotherapist Teresa Cristina Alvisi, professor of thermalism at PUC-Poços de Caldas (MG) and director of Thermas Antonio Carlos, in the same city.
