Netflix focuses on electronic music in two new original movies

With an eye on the massive audience that fills festivals à la Tomorrowland, Netflix is releasing two new original films, both focused on electronic music. On the 19th of that month, the documentary “Steve Aoki: I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead” arrives in the catalogue. The title is a reference to the guy’s obsession with working non-stop.

Recognized as one of the main names in the commercial electronic scene, Aoki travels the world giving around 300 concerts a year, in addition to composing and recording in the studio. Behind all this gas is the guy’s idolatrous relationship with his father, whose motto was “business comes first, health second, and family third”. In addition to showing Aoki’s strong connection to his father and career, the film also features testimonials from people like DJ Diplo and Travis Baker, drummer for Blink-182.

Check out the production trailer:

While the documentary intends to give an intimate focus to the DJ’s story – leaving out his controversial facet and the backstage of the insane festivals in which the guy participates – the fictional film “XOXO” brings a much more vibrant proposal. In an intense, colorful and hyper-dancing rhythm, the feature tells the story of a group of young people who meet at the fictional festival that gives its name to the production.

In the feature, Ethan (Graham Phillips of “The Good Wife”) is a young aspiring DJ who sees his life change when he is invited to play at the event. There, he meets a group of girls and becomes involved with the cute Krystal, played by Sarah Hyland (from “Modern Family”). The cast also features Hayley Kiyoko, who is an actress and one of the most exciting names in indie-pop today. Take a look at the trailer:

And as Netflix is not one to give points without knots, the highlight of “XOXO” is the musical part of the film. The soundtrack is a sure shot in the heart of anyone who enjoys EDM (electronic dance music) and brings big names like Diplo (here again), Skrillex, Disclosure and Alok. Musical supervision is signed by Pete Tong, presenter of “BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix” and one of the greatest connoisseurs of electronic music today.
