Uber strike: understand the stoppage that is happening across Brazil

This Wednesday (8), app drivers Uber started a strike at midnight, which is expected to last 24 hours🇧🇷 The reasons that led to the protest are: the search for an increase in the value of the kilometer driven, a basic rate of 2 reais, a decrease in the fee charged from each driver in races and greater supervision of users.

These requirements arose because next Friday (10) there will be an initial capital offering on the Stock Exchange about Uber. It is estimated that the company can be valued at up to 90 billion, the highest value since 2014. Therefore, drivers understand that the company can offer them better working conditions.

The movement started in the United States, but has also reached the United Kingdom, Australia and Brazil. In fact, an in-person protest was confirmed in Vale do Anhangabaú, in São Paulo, which tends to go to the building of the stock Exchange🇧🇷 However, according Eduardo Limapresident of Amasp (Association of Application Drivers of São Paulo), in an interview given to UOL, it is not known what the real scope of the stoppage is, because the idea is being passed mainly through social networks and WhatsApp.

In addition to Uber, other applications are involved in the search for better working conditions – such as cabify and 99🇧🇷 Everyone was asked to keep the app turned off during the day, just like Uber drivers are doing.

After today, the impact of the stoppage on the company’s positioning will be analyzed and, consequently, what will be the next steps for drivers regarding the claims.
