Dining table is a place for family union and friendships; understand

Rich in symbolism and meanings, the image of the Holy Supper or Last Supper of Jesus appears in the dining room of many Christian homes. In the biblical passage, we see Jesus before a large table with food (bread and fruit) and drinking vessels, along with the twelve apostles. And why is it that this striking scene is next to a family’s dinner table? To bless the family, most people will say. And the answer is correct. The image of Jesus in the house is meant to bless the residents and the visitors who frequent the house.

It is also to bless the food that is on the table and that will be eaten by the people. The idea is that this family never lacks food. Or rather, may this house be blessed with abundance and prosperity, through the work of each person and represented with food on the table or in the kitchen. The Santa Ceia table is the dining table in our house, even though it is a simple piece of furniture, it is an important character in the family’s life story.

Who wouldn’t like to go to their godmother’s or grandmother’s house in the late afternoon to have a snack at that table set with a flowered or checkered tablecloth, with juices, cakes and the smell of delicious coffee? Who prepared everything was our grandmother, but who received us with abundance was the table that had its best clothes, its towel of the day, perfumed by a vase of natural flowers.

This same table is the one that welcomes friends and family for a Saturday night pizza or weekend lunch, where everyone talks, laughs and spends hours chatting. The table is also responsible for meeting these people. It is around the dining room or kitchen table that friends or cousins gather for hours on end talking about their children’s adventures and soap operas, while having a coffee.

How interesting it is to note how theoretically a simple piece of furniture has a rich history in people’s lives and so much energy of abundance and union in people’s lives. Children, young people, adults and the elders of the family love to sit around the table and chat outside, having a coffee or wine, and snacking on a cake or snack. A table unites generations and even unknown people, who in a short time are almost intimate.

When a person goes to live alone, he will buy the basics to live in his new house. Usually a stove, a mattress, a TV, a computer, a refrigerator and a six-seat dining table. Why would a six-seater table live alone? To remember family life around the table and to welcome friends in the new residence.

Note how a dining table is essential at parties, suppers, dinners and parties. When we prepare the table to place the food, first of all we put the best and most beautiful tablecloth. The towel symbolizes that the food we are about to receive is blessed. That the foods on the table are above worldly or earthly life and are closer to God. The tablecloth, much more than hygiene and cleaning, symbolizes the elevation of an energy pattern of the food we have at our disposal and the people who are around the table to receive the blessing of food.

Think a little more about the importance of a dining table in your home. Make sure you and your family are eating one or more weekly meals around it or if each resident is eating in their room, watching their TV and living their world.
