The real reason why Gisele Bündchen left Victoria’s Secret

And it was because of the success with the brand that the Brazilian shocked the world in 2007 when she announced that she would not renew a years-long agreement, which even served to transform her into the highest paid model in the world.

But the model recently recounted details of her personal life in her autobiography, including information about why she made that decision, even with the company paying something around 80% of her total income.

“In the first five years, I felt comfortable walking in lingerie, but as time went on, I felt less and less comfortable being photographed walking down the runway wearing only a bikini or a thong,” she said. “Give me a tail, a cape, wings – please anything to cover me up a bit!”

Gisele signed with VS when she was just 19, and was one of the first runway models to go for the catalog brand. Between so many store releases, commercial shoots and travel, she was sold out by the time she was due to renew her contract in 2006.

“I was certainly grateful for the opportunity and financial security the company provided me, but I was in a different place in my life and wasn’t sure I wanted to continue working there,” she wrote.

To make the final decision, the model chose a very curious method involving a draw:

She ended up choosing ‘no’ and that’s how her Victoria’s Secret era came to an end. As unusual as her decision was, Gisele says she has never regretted her choice in all these years. By the way, a curiosity is that it was someone from the brand who introduced her to her future husband Tom Brady!
