Volkswagen tycoon leaves 5 billion euros of inheritance to his wife on condition that she does not remarry

When Ferdinand Piëch, automotive industry tycoon and former chairman of Volkswagen for two decades, passed away, he left Ursula, his wife, a billionaire fortune. However, he left a rather curious clause in his will: she could administer the inheritance as long as she did not remarry. Although the condition seems selfish, perhaps the financial reasons for this decision are more understandable than we realize.

Today the awesome.club shows that in addition to a lot of money, Ferdinand left his wife the responsibility of making a very complex decision.

Director of Volkswagen and grandson of Porsche

Ferdinand Piëch is known in the automotive world not only for being the grandson of Ferdinand Porsche, founder of the famous luxury car brand, but also because he was director, shareholder and chairman of the board of Volkswagen for many years.

He started his career at his grandfather’s company and shortly afterwards he made his way to Audi and Volkswagen. After many years of work, he created a large empire and an impressive fortune. However, this fortune cannot be used by his children or his wife, unless certain clauses and conditions are respected.

Nothing for the kids and everything for the wife, but…

As cases of spoiled descendants who decide to spend everything their parents have earned are not rare, Ferdinand created some conditions to prevent his 13 children from spending their entire fortune, estimated at 5 billion euros.

In this way, he created two foundations with his money: Ferdinand Karl Alpha and Ferdinand Karl Beta, and gave his wife control of both. “I care about the future of our companies. Therefore, I decided to create the foundations, ”he explained in an interview. However, Ursula also has a restriction on controlling money and can only own everything if she doesn’t marry another man.

A quick love story

Ferdinand and Ursula Piëch met in 1982 when she started working as a teacher for their 9 children. To secure the job, Ursula said she knew how to deal with extreme situations, including driving a car. Upon hearing this, her future husband decided to test her and made her drive a 4×4 on a very dangerous road. Since then, she has shown herself to be a confident woman with great strategic ability, thus winning the admiration and heart of the car tycoon.

Perhaps this is the reason behind the clause

Ferdinand’s trust in his wife was real. He gave her a seat on Volkswagen’s supervisory board. When people started to doubt his ability, he said that his wife could do the job much better than he could.

But not even that stopped the tycoon from creating a series of conditions in the will. In order for Ursula to remain the “owner” of this great fortune, she cannot remarry. While Ferdinand’s decision was not without controversy, some say his actions only show that he trusted only his wife and no one else.

What is your opinion on Piëch’s decision? Do you think he went too far? What would you do in his place? And in her place? Share in the comments.
