Saint Terezinha’s Day: history, prayer and miraculous novena

Since I was very young, Saint Therese of the Child Jesus, also called Santa das Rosas, already manifested her gift to have a religious life. However, it was only at the age of 17 that she managed to enter a convent, after the death of her father. Did you know that today (1st) is celebrated the day of the saint, which was named after her immense love for Jesus?

Unfortunately, Terezinha died very young, at the age of 24, due to tuberculosis. During her last days of life, she told people that when she died, she would make a shower of roses fall, representing her thanks to the Christians. Hence, her image is symbolized holding a bouquet of the beautiful flowers.

As it is invoked to comfort anguished and afflicted hearts, those who go through moments of despair resort to miraculous novena of the saint, which began to be disseminated in 1925. This happened when Father Putigan, who was his devotee, made the sequence of prayers and asked as confirmation that his requests would be answered that he would receive a rose. The flower was sent to him three days after the start of the prayer. As the situation ended up repeating itself, he became a tireless preacher, revealing it to everyone. Check out!

Prayer to Santa Teresa

“Most worthy and sanctified Saint Terezinha of the Child Jesus, it is known that her mission was, through all of them, to proclaim the name of Christ, so that everyone could find the word of the Lord again. I know that even though you died young, you had a childhood and youth turned to heavenly teachings and a deep humility, so I turn to you, so that I will never abandon myself, in the face of a weakness of discrediting that God can do everything, that only He is able to help me in what I need and that I lack enough faith to know how to ask and be grateful for what I have achieved in life. Pray for us, Saint Terezinha. Amen!”

Novena of the Roses of Santa Terezinha

This miraculous novena can be started on any day of the month. Many devotees of the saint, however, prefer to do it from the 9th to the 17th.

For nine days, pray:

“Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I thank you for all the favors, all the graces with which you enriched the soul of your servant Saint Terezinha do Menino Jesus, during the 24 years she spent on Earth. For the merits of such a dear saint , grant me the grace I ask of you (make your request), if it is according to your most holy will and for the salvation of my soul. Increase my faith and my hope, O Santa Terezinha, fulfilling once again your promise of that no one would invoke you in vain, making me win a rose, a sign that I will obtain the requested grace.”

After finishing the prayer, then pray the Glory to the Father prayer 24 times:

“Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, now and forever, amen!”

Final prayer for every day:

“Saint Terezinha of the Child Jesus, pray for us.”

Faith report to Saint Terezinha

“I had a problem with my uterus, I would have to have surgery to remove it and I was very afraid. So I decided to do the Santa Terezinha novena, asking her to heal me. On the seventh day, I received the rose. On the eighth, the problem disappeared. When I went back to the doctor, he said that I had nothing, that my uterus was clean and I wouldn’t need surgery. I was cured!” – Maria de Lourdes Nogueira Silva, São José do Egito (PE)
