Know what is psychography?

Psychography is the technique used by mediums so that they write a text under the influence of a disembodied spirit, using their own hand for this, which gave rise to “direct psychography” or “manual psychography”. Of all the forms of communication, handwriting is the simplest and most complete because it allows for permanent and regular relationships with spirits.

When someone writes a psychographed text, the conscious mind seeks ideas in the unconscious, therefore, one is conscious all the time.

There are four types of psychographic mediums:

Mechanical: it is characterized by the fact of moving the hand, writing under the direct influence of the spirit, with an impulse completely independent of its will, which advances without interruption as long as the spirit has something to say. The medium is totally passive. In Brazil, the work of Francisco Cândido Xavier, in Uberaba, MG, stands out.

Intuitive: the intuitive medium acts as an interpreter to convey the spirit’s thought; therefore, you need to understand it in order to translate it faithfully. That thought is not his, but passes through his brain. This is exactly the role of the intuitive medium.

Semi-mechanical: the medium feels the hand impelled, without this being his will, but at the same time he is aware of what he writes, as the words are formed. Thought appears before or after writing. It can also occur at the same time. These mediums are the most numerous.

Inspired: is the type of medium who receives messages in a state of ecstasy, mental communications that are foreign to their ideas and what characterizes them is, above all, spontaneity and the rich character of information such as a symphony, a book, without being a musician or writer .

Who can be a psychograph medium?

There is no way of diagnosing the mediumistic faculty other than through training. The best way to know whether or not a person has the ability to write under the influence of spirits is to subject him to experience.

Before, however, starting someone in the exercise of psychography or any other mediumship, it is convenient for the medium to study the spiritist doctrine and the fundamental notions about what spiritism is.

How to start psychography

To start the work of psychography, it is enough to take a pencil and put yourself in the position of writing and that it be carried out with tranquility. These mediumistic activities must have a regularity, otherwise there will be no learning process.

Coder Allan Kardec paid attention to some recommendations for beginners:

– The opening prayer must be made in the name of God and of the good spirits in this way: “I beg the Almighty God to allow a good spirit to come to communicate transmitting its thoughts. I also ask my guardian angel to assist me and keep evil spirits away from me.” You will know when to finish. Put down your pencil and thank God for this opportunity to communicate.

– The tip of the pencil must remain supported on the paper, without offering resistance to the movements; don’t have anything on your hand (ring, bracelet, etc., that hinders your movement). For mediumistic writing, it is indifferent whether you use a pen or pencil.

– Training must be carried out daily. (If not, once or twice a week.)

At some point, a spirit must manifest. In intuitive mediums, ideas arise that must be put on paper with ease. In semimechanics, some small involuntary hand movements are observed, accompanied or not by the ideas to be transcribed. Over time, more consistent writings will appear that can be analyzed according to common sense. There are cases in which the spirit draws meaningless scribbles or writes meaningless words, but such things usually cease with the progressive development of the faculty.

Initially, ask the spirit questions; they must be made simply so that he can answer them with a ¿yes¿ or ¿no¿. It is important that the questions are objective. Over time, the answers will be more complete. However, it is suggested that this practice be done after a certain time of training, with caution so that it is not an open door to playful spirits. (No questions: Will I get back with my boyfriend? Or: Will I be able to pay my debts?)

The psychographic mediumistic meeting must have the necessary collection, meeting all the rules for the exercise. Group development is much faster than individual development. This happens because the magnetic current formed by the group offers the communicating spirits a great variety of elements, appropriate to the success of the attempt. Usually out of 10 people, three achieve a satisfactory result.

The text is written as a kind of essay on a subject that the spirit deems useful. The content of the works must be examined and revised later by a person who studies spiritualism.

The spelling must be corrected so that it is intelligible, taking care, however, that the thoughts of the spirit are not modified.

It is necessary to understand that in the first phase of the exercises, the communicating spirits are of a lower order. Therefore, they should not be asked to give any type of information that is not within their reach. Every spirit that in the communications of beginners presents itself with a venerated name is of suspicious origin. Chapter XVII of The Mediums’ Book should be studied in detail to avoid the domination of evil spirits in initiation sessions.

It is also important to note that only 30% of mediums are psychographers. The spirits will take into account the medium’s willingness to serve, combined with his condition of morality, dedication, sincerity, humility, altruism and above all love for Jesus’ work. Allied to this, the medium, if possible, should have a regulated life in the discipline, avoiding excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages, eating healthy, having a sex life in accordance with the prevailing morality of the society in which he lives and avoiding using a vocabulary with foul words.

Kardec’s remarks

1) The medium is aware of what he writes and, at first, is naturally led to doubt his faculty because he does not know whether the writing is his or the spirit that communicates. But he must go on with his writings, and in time he will gain confidence and his mediumship will triumph.

2) In the first sessions, when the medium hesitates in front of a thought, he should write it down. There are situations in which it is unnecessary to know whether the thought is of the medium or of the spirit. As long as he produces good works, which is what matters, he should always be grateful for other ideas to come to him.

3) It is advisable that the medium does not abuse his mediumship (up to 2 hours a day). May he use discipline in his work and be sustained by action in the service of others, by study, meditation and constant prayers. Psychography, like other forms of mediumistic practice, should only be used at opportune times and never out of simple curiosity or particular interest. The enthusiasm that takes hold of some newbies can lead them to be under the influence of mystifying spirits.

4) It is convenient for the medium or the team of mediums to have specific days and times to carry out their mediumistic work. This will facilitate the best dispositions for the manifestations to the spirits.

5) Messages intended for the group or that are of general interest must be disseminated so that the teachings of the spirits become known. Good spirits tend to distance themselves from mediums who do not reveal the lessons transmitted by them and leave them delivered to mystifying entities.

With discipline begin your psychography. Put the day, month, and year in addition to the start and end time. Remember: let it flow as if it were an essay. Write first in a notebook and then transcribe to the computer. It can be just a word, a sentence, it doesn’t matter. Don’t worry about signing, just feel like it.
