World computer network (the www!) completes 30 years and wins honors

Remember when to “enter” the internet you had to write an address that started with www? Those three little letters, which mean world wide webOr the world Wide Webwere largely responsible for us being able to enjoy the best of the internet.

Nowadays we don’t even think about it anymore: the address of this site, you can check it up there, there’s no www anymore. And even the concept of “going online” seems old-fashioned, as we are now connected all the time, with our cell phones and other devices.

It was in 1989 that Tim Berners-Lee, an English scientist, created such a worldwide network. The internet already existed, but it was not very accessible to ordinary people. By creating the www, a protocol that allowed browsers to access information on websites, everything became easier. And as these sites could link to each other, the network was created.

Thirty years later, the internet has grown and matured, and nowadays other programs, such as cell phone applications, for example, use other protocols. But the www resists – even though it disappeared from website addresses, this environment where we travel using browsers such as Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Microsoft Edge is still the worldwide computer network invented by Tim Berners-Lee.

The World Wide Web Turned Doodle

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the www, Google prepared a homage in the form of a Doodle, on the website’s home page this Tuesday (12). With an illustration that can awaken nostalgic feelings in the elderly, a small computer like the ones from the old days, connected to the wall, slowly carries a terrestrial globe, showing how, with the world wide web, the world has become more accessible for all of us.
