Who is Emmanuel, the mentor spirit of Chico Xavier

Chico Xavier attributed most of the authorship of his psychographed books to Emmanuel. From his works, the teachings of the spiritist doctrine, the biblical teachings in the spiritist vision, the novels, etc., stand out. However, few know that Emmanuel was already following the doctrinal work of Allan Kardec*.

Emmanuel, which means “God with us”, spoke to Chico Xavier in the 1920s, but the psychographies began in 1930. In Chico’s words: “Emmanuel was a true father, a dear mentor who with affection tolerated all my faults”.

The spirit would have been in other lives a priest in Egypt and then a consul. He was also a Roman senator named Publius Lentulus, a contemporary of Jesus. Afterwards he lived as a slave in Syria, as a Roman in Cyprus, and as a bishop in the city of Lyon. His last incarnations would have been as Father Manuel da Nóbrega, Father Damiano, later an educator of the nobility, and Father Amaro, who lived in Acre and Rio de Janeiro. According to Chico, his mentor would have been reincarnated in the interior of São Paulo in the year 2000. He will be a teacher and a great medium in his exercise of humility. Along with Emmnanuel, Brazil’s spiritual guide, Chico always followed the advice of his spiritual guides.

In honor of the centenary of the most famous medium in Brazil, , together with Mônica Buonfiglio, prepared a special on Chico Xavier and psychography and mediumship. The series began on Monday and runs until Wednesday, with a total of eight texts about the medium and the practice that made him one of the greatest icons of Brazilian popular culture.
