Reiki Principles: Know the 5 principles to change your life!

The principles of Reiki aim to provide deep relaxation and offer scientifically proven achievements through techniques of perception and awareness, which are achieved through basic principles.

The practice will help in the treatment of spiritual and physical balance through the laying on of hands, which transfer the energy from the person applying to the person receiving the treatment. It is similar to the energy pass, which is even among the methods applied by the SUS.

It is a safe practice that does not generate any type of side effect and is not related to any religion. Treatment aims to seek relief from physical pain and rebalance emotions, eliminating symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression. Understand better throughout the article and have a good reading!

It is important to keep in mind that Reiki is a technique that has a scientific foundation to be performed. The person who will apply the technique – or Reikiano – has studied to understand the importance of laying on of hands and the correct way to transfer your vital energy. To better understand this technique, read on!

In history, the principles of Reiki find their origin in Tibet. But it was in 1922 that Mikao Usui (who was practicing a 21-day Buddhist training on Mount Kurama) had this “revelation”. Mikao’s training encompassed practices such as meditation, prayer, fasting, and chanting.

Usui came back from his training saying that he received the gift of transferring the vital energy he received through his Crown Chakra (or Sahasrara) to another person, rebalancing physical, spiritual and emotional problems. In the same year, Mikao Usui moved to Tokyo, where he founded the “Usui Reiki Ryōhō Gakkai”, which, translated, means “Society of Usui’s Therapeutic Spiritual Energy Method”.

Usui taught the system he called “Reiki” to over 2000 people in his lifetime. Sixteen of his students continued this training to reach the third level.

Before starting the Reiki session, the Reiki practitioner (person who will apply the technique) will do an energy cleaning in the work environment, in order to leave the place vibrating with feelings of love and spiritual harmony.

Next, he will work on laying on of hands, always following the fundamentals or principles of Reiki, so that the assisted person rebalances his energy and chakras. These fundamentals are not intended to do any kind of miraculous cure, much less to sell the idea of any religion. In fact, people of all religions are welcome to practice.

The benefits gained through the principles of Reiki are proven in studies around the world, including Brazil. Studies carried out at the Federal University of São Paulo point to a transformation in the minds of stressed people and even to a better immune response in the body of rats with tumors.

Although not considered traditional medicine, Reiki offers very positive results against physical pain and emotional disorders, such as anxiety and stress. At the University of Virginia, in the United States, the technique was able to reduce pain and discomfort caused in patients with tumors.

In the original Reiki, created by Mikao Usui, there are three symbols that are passed in a level 2 attunement. The level 3 symbol was worked on by his 16 students. Symbols are like keys, capable of opening deep levels of the body and mind.

These keys work different energy fields, involving the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. Are they:

  • Cho-Ku-Rei – physical and etheric body;

  • Sei-He-Ki – emotional body;

  • Hon-Sha-Ze-Sho-Nen – mental field;

  • Dai-Koo-Myo – spiritual body.

  • The symbols, as well as the principles of Reiki, will only take effect after studies and knowledge of the Reiki master. Traditional Reiki has been working with these 4 symbols for some time, but other strands use many others. In Amadeus Shamanic Reiki (based on Tupi-Guarani elements), for example, around 20 symbols are used.

    Reiki Levels is the name used to talk about the different stages the practitioner must go through during training. When the levels are passed, the practitioner understands the theory and practice of therapy. Traditional Reiki has levels 1, 2 and 3, as well as a master’s degree. After these steps, the practitioner is considered a Reiki master.

    The duration of each level will depend on the method used by the master who teaches the course. However, all work with a combination of theory and practice. Practice is essential for level progression, as it is from there that the student experiences the principles of Reiki.

    In addition to alleviating symptoms and assisting in the treatment of diseases, Reiki is a philosophy of life that aims to improve and achieve the well-being of each person assisted, helping them to have more self-knowledge, emotional balance, self-esteem and many other benefits.

    The fact is that it acts both in recovery and in preventing imbalances that can lead to illness. To learn more about each of the principles of this practice, read on!

    Stress, anger and irritation are feelings and emotions that are highly destructive to health as a whole. In this idea, the 1st of Reiki principles says that we have no control over external situations. Therefore, the ideal is not to create any kind of expectation and desire to control them.

    It shows that everything flows in its own time and in its own way and it is up to everyone to respect and be resilient. It is essential to train the mind, so as not to keep feeding or maintaining negative emotions that generate wear and tear. Also, not to sound like a law, the rule is to think that this will only be for today.

    The 2nd of the Reiki principles talks about living today and now. It is common for the mind, during a good part of the day, to be distracted by thoughts that travel between the past and the future. Fear, remorse, worry and frustration for what didn’t happen rob energy and health.

    Goals and desires need to be used as oars that guide life, but it’s not good to get carried away by the eagerness of immediate achievement. Some wishes need to be left for later. Thus, tension, expectations and anxiety must be replaced by the pleasure of living each moment.

    According to the 3rd Reiki principle, gratitude is a balm capable of healing all the pains of life, avoiding toxic attitudes and thoughts. It’s common to place happiness on what you don’t have yet, but it’s essential to remember that, after an achievement, the mind will always return to the state of wanting something more, which can become a dangerous cycle.

    That way, whether material achievements or any other areas, they will not promote lasting happiness. When this maxim is learned, the student develops self-knowledge and maturity. A bed to rest on and a roof over your head will bring you happiness far more lastingly than any other perishable good.

    The 4th principle of Reiki “work honestly” not only talks about being worthy in your work, but also about fulfilling the duties that your own conscience requires. To be at peace with yourself is to be in agreement with what your conscience says.

    Procrastination and laziness are devastating for physical and mental health. So the fourth of the Reiki principles reminds you that keeping up with your work and all that it entails is an excellent way to keep your body and mind in balance. In this case, the satisfaction of the completed task strengthens.

    “Kindness breeds kindness” should not be seen just as an exhaustively repetitive phrase, but as a new philosophy of life. According to the 5th principle of Reiki, kindness creates a very positive and happy internal and external environment. Being kind to yourself and others creates mutual happiness and pleasure.

    In this way, the last of the Reiki principles talks about the importance of attention and care for others and oneself. Furthermore, it reveals the need to be kind to everything that exists on the planet. Kindness can be offered to everything and everyone, and you yourself are the greatest beneficiary of this situation.

    To apply the principles of Reiki, always take a small moment out of your day to sit and breathe. You will feel love without distinctions coming out of your chest and filling the environment around you and it will continue to expand in all directions. That way, don’t make distinctions: insect, larva and cockroach are also part of the balance of a whole.

    Be grateful for this broad feeling that is able to encompass all corners of the Universe with the same intensity and the same respect. Feel the fullness of the Universe receiving your love and snuggling into that deep and true feeling. This is full love, which connects everything into one, which sees everyone as equal and which does not abandon anything or anyone.

    Repeat the 5 principles of Reiki to yourself and the whole environment will transform into a place that embraces good feelings. Remember that Reiki is a path to knowing and enlightening yourself. So shine!
