What is a square? Understand Aspect in Astrology

Two planets that are 90 degrees apart are squaring each other. When dividing the 360 degrees of an Astral Chart by the number 4, we get 90. From that division, we get a square. Therefore, conflicts and tensions are symbols of what a square is.

When two stars are doing this aspect, it’s like they’re in competition with each other. In addition to the possibility of conflict, the signs in which the planets are squared are non-opposites of the same rhythm (both are cardinal, fixed or mutable, for example). This reinforces the friction of this aspect.

A curious thing about a square is that sometimes it is not precisely an exact 90 degree distance. This is because the variation between 84 and 96 degrees is also considered a square. Furthermore, the minimum drops to 83 and the maximum increases to 97 degrees when Sun and/or Moon are involved.

But it’s important to remember that an aspect, challenging or harmonious, is just one step in interpreting your personality. However, only in the full birth chart can you see this aspect along with the other astrological placements that formed the sky when you were born.
