They tell the stories behind tattoos…wrong

Nothing like wanting to get a tattoo, finding the tattoo artist, having the right money and going there to color your skin! But things don’t always go as expected. Sometimes the tattoo is born after a day drinking at the bar (and the tattoo artist happened to be drinking together), or the mistake was yours when saying what you wanted. Or maybe everything turned out exactly as you expected – and what you expected was a mockery tattoo.

We know that you can remove it, cover it with another one on top… but the story behind the really crazy drawings are worth a lot and they don’t disappear even with a laser!

To prove that every tattoo has its value, we’ve put together some stories for you to love the doodles on your skin (even if they’re weird)

This is the mixture of Brazil and… the USA?

“On a sunny Saturday, I, with money in my pocket, went for a walk. I walked into a really cool studio and started talking to the receptionist, then the tattoo artist. He was VERY nice, he even offered me a beer. It was 11 am. I saw him tattooing a lot of people, while thinking about mine. Some of his friends got there too and… we drank more.

By 5pm I was already very happy and looking forward to getting my tattoo done. I wanted two expressions that appear in the tarot: “Stand alone & Stay true”. When choosing the font, there was a little problem with the ‘&’ because it was distorted, but everything was fine because the tattoo artist said he would fix it right away. So I tattooed. I loved! It didn’t hurt at all and I loved the result when I saw it.

The next day, with no intention of looking critically, I glanced over and realized: “Stand alone E Stay true”. I looked. I looked again. Did I have a Portuguese letter there in an all-English tattoo right in the middle of my chest? My mom tried to warn me back at the studio, I remember her asking “And that ‘e’ there?”. And I didn’t even call. The ‘E’ is capitalized…

I have a love-hate relationship with what happened, but to this day this story has only given me good laughs. I’m going to cover it up, because the tattoo is pretty bad, but it won’t be too soon and until then, we’re there! I don’t hide it and I even learned to like it.” 🇧🇷 Nayara Angelo, 20 years old, insurance broker🇧🇷

It’s wrong (and it was my mistake)

“One afternoon I was walking down Rua Augusta and I felt like getting a tattoo at that time. I entered the first studio that crossed my path. But, as I didn’t know the tattoo artist’s gifts, I decided to do something simpler, that wouldn’t run the risk of getting bad. I chose the name of a Beatles song: “Free as a Bird”which somehow had the same meaning as a wing, but still paid homage to the band I love so much.

I wrote the phrase on a piece of paper, handed it to the tattoo artist. He made the decal on the skin of my foot, asked if everything was ok, I said yes, and let’s get to work! As it was a small and simple tattoo, it was done quickly, in about 20 minutes.

When I was ready, I was happy to check it in the mirror and, to my surprise, it said “FREE AS BIRD”, missing an “a”🇧🇷 I showed the mistake to the tattoo artist, he got desperate, put an “a” in pen just to see how the workaround would look and it was horrible!

He took the paper on which I had written the text and: yes, the mistake was mine🇧🇷 Distracted that I am, I wrote it wrong.

The solution: immediately cover up the wrong tattoo with an improvised wing, designed freehand.

My luck is that it turned out beautiful!” 🇧🇷 Bia Sano, publicist🇧🇷

Did you tattoo your boyfriend’s initial and break up? Just cover it up (and tattoo the current one)!

“Although everyone says that you don’t get a tattoo with your boyfriend’s name or initial, I don’t regret having done it – so much so that I did it again, you know. I just took care not to make it too big, because if the relationship ended, I would be able to cover it later (in my case, it’s that black band over the star).” 🇧🇷 Patrícia Ambrosino, 30, clothing designer.

Or turn the breakup into… joy!

“At the time I was dating a boy named Alexandre and he went with me the day I went to get his name tattooed. Only instead of choosing his whole name, I asked the tattoo artist to write ‘Ale’. My boyfriend kept asking me why I didn’t write his name all at once, but I replied that I preferred to just use his last name. Little does he know that I was already thinking of covering it with something, in case the relationship ended. The relationship with Ale ended and the tattoo gained this new meaning: Joy!” 🇧🇷 Simone Vitorino, 30, administrative assistant.
