Thais Carla warns about toxic relationship between nutritionists and fat people

Last Tuesday (27), the ballerina Thais Carla used Instagram to record an important victory for fat people. She managed to get the Justice to demand the withdrawal of photos and videos of the ballerina used improperly by a nutritionist to supposedly warn followers about the risks of obesity. To understand what led the dancer to take such an attitude, the MofWoman chatted with her at the Beauty Fair.

“I had already observed some nutritionists doing this, but it was a post without tagging me. Someone who bossed me around, but nothing serious, who made me angry. Because I don’t get upset, but sometimes I get angry, because the person really wants to show up to do that. And not only did she use my photos and trash talk me, a bunch of shit, she said I do society a disservice – and she tagged me. For you to see that she wanted to make me upset and that I would mark her. But I won’t tag you, beautiful! Leave it alone because if it works out in court, it will, I did my part. It’s good because this is making people write articles about the subject, and they are seeing the height of absurdity that is nutritionists with people – of course there are exceptions, but there are a lot of assholes. It is an abuse of their authority”, emphasizes the dancer.

BIG DAY my village! Today I woke up with wonderful news: Justice granted an injunction guaranteeing my rights against a nutritionist from Bahia who made a pejorative post using my image without authorization. The defendant must delete the post from her social networks, under penalty of a daily fine in the amount of R$ 300. With the initial decision, the Judiciary understood that I suffered immediate damage due to the defendant’s post, which will not have her name disclosed on recommendation from my lawyers (@abreuebittencourt). “With the injunction granted, we were able to demonstrate the existing damage in the process”, explains lawyer Janaína Abreu (@janainababreu). The action was filed as compensation for “losses and damages” and moral damages. Lawyer Ives Bittencourt (@ivesbittencourt), who also follows my case, clarifies that the process follows the formal rite. “We started very well. We will have a conciliation hearing, already designated, and an instruction and judgment hearing, if necessary so that all the facts are clarified. . I am soooo happy with this decision by the Court – which recognized the violation of my personal rights. I hope that, in the final Judgment, they understand that the damages go beyond not authorizing the use of an image, but also involve my entire work, career and trajectory. I decided to share this with you now because I know that this process can inspire not only fat people who are victims of pejorative posts, like me, but also other victims of hate and invisibility on the internet. That is, we are going to help many people: report it! Special thanks to my friend Naiana Ribeiro (@itsnaiana), who is a journalist and anti-fat phobia activist, for her support and recommendation. She even convinced me to file this lawsuit precisely to reduce people’s sense of impunity on the web. 🇧🇷 Filter used on my friend’s photo: @gordaroupa

In addition to resuming the important debate on medical fatphobia, Thais also commented on how it feels to suffer more prejudice than other fat people. This happens because a type of “meter” of different fat bodies has been constructed in the social conscience. The consequence of this is that fatphobia is proportional to the person’s size – is it the infamous “it’s okay to be fat, as long as it means dressing 48. 54? NEVER!”.

“For sure I suffer from fatphobia in everything. It’s on the seat, on the step, on the bus, in a movie theater – there’s two or three, but what if they’re fatter? How do you sit down and watch the movie? So, there is a lack of accessibility with people and prejudice. People look at me like, ‘Wow, what a fat girl. Why does she have the nerve to wear this outfit? Why is she dressed like that? And I’m thin, wonderful, and I don’t look like this?’. I suffer, for sure, but I go over everything. I’m really the person ‘Boas vibracoes’“, joked the ballerina remembering the conversation with kefera and Erika Januza at the event, where they commented that this history of #gratiluz does not exist for both.

About the possibility of losing weight, a subject about which Thais is constantly questioned, she revealed that she has already thought about it. Even so, she realized a long time ago that this was not the path she wanted to follow.

“When I was 16, 17 years old, I was under a lot of pressure because I was close to graduating. And then I said: ‘either I lose weight!’, in my naive little mind, ‘or I get fat and I don’t dance’. But then things took a different turn in my life and then I saw that this was meant to be. Everyone has a mission in life and that’s mine. I feel happy the way I am!”.
