So-called spiritual awakening is a shift in perception. And the perception changes when we take, understand and feel the increase in consciousness: it is realizing that there is more than what we saw, perceived, understood and felt before.

We all want to change the result, but we forget that for that we need to change the Path. If we know how to arrive at the result, how we manifest our reality and perceive the mechanics, we have the choice to do more of the same or not, and thus change.

The concept of consciousness is extremely complex to explain because it is associated with different fields of knowledge. The meaning of the word changes depending on the area: Psychology, Philosophy, Metaphysics or Neuroscience.

To put it simply, it’s like we’re in little boxes and we only see, see and perceive inside that place. When we don’t know that there is a bigger box that contains the little box we exist, we don’t see it, and we don’t even notice it.

So awakening would be first realizing we’re in a box and then noticing that it’s not unique, there’s a bigger one that contains it. After that, we leave the old box and switch to the other one.

And to a huge surprise… finding yourself in another box, better, more comfortable yes, but still inside another and another.

How to get off autopilot

One of the interesting characteristics that the brain cannot differentiate is: what is matter and what is image. For example, for the brain to see, dream or imagine the sea is the same thing for someone who has already experienced the sea. They are synapses! So in a creative visualization we can use this feature to favor ourselves and imagine scenes suitable for our purpose.

Another characteristic is the literality, the brain does not know how to speak, for it “this kills me”, “this is the worst situation” or “everything happens to me” is exactly that.

For us, it’s just a language of its own without judgment, but it does have several coupled and unconscious judgments and beliefs. Not that the brain doesn’t understand, actually what it understands is intention, verb and attitude / behavior.

When we understand how it works, we can choose between keeping more of the same or changing. And this is a small part of the concept of “consciousness” that we alter and increase through knowledge and self-knowledge. And this is awakening!
