Gothic wedding: A party inspired by Dracula’s castle

Black wedding dress, gothic decoration and a lot of elegance. This was the wedding of psychologist Talita Alcântara Fontenele e Silva, 28, and businessman and drummer Rafael Miranda Ferreira, 32.

The couple met at Rock in Rio 2011, during the Angra concert. As both aren’t big fans of the band, they spent the whole show talking. “We were together all week, but we were sure that the relationship would go nowhere, as we lived in different cities – me in Fortaleza and he in Rio de Janeiro. After that, we kept in touch over the internet, we started talking practically every day. And when we saw it, we fell in love”, said Talita.

“After 6 months of dating, I decided to study for a year in Rio de Janeiro, through the academic mobility program of federal universities. At the end of this year, the opportunity arose for Rafael to tour Canada with his band. It was a very tense moment for our relationship, as I couldn’t accompany him because of college. So, before he went on tour, the marriage proposal took place in Cabo Frio”, he said.

For the bride, one of the biggest challenges in organizing the wedding was finding suppliers who really understood the purpose of the event. Many even tried to convince the bride and groom to give up the proposal. “We wanted something gothic, dark, but not cartoonish or Halloween-like,” explained the bride. The couple held meetings with approximately ten different decorators until they found a professional who created a project that really met expectations.

Event manager, ceremonialist Eurídice Cavalcante was responsible for giving life to the Gothic aesthetic that the couple dreamed of so much, using Dracula’s castle as the main reference. “They came to me, like all grooms, with little idea of the elements that make up a marriage. On the other hand, I was managing a super cohesive couple who were open to my guidance. The dance floor was covered in black to give the space an elegant touch. As the bride’s main reference was Dracula’s castle, we used the marbled look, which is a strong trend at the moment”, said Eurídice Cavalcante, owner of Liven Eventos.

Intimate, the ceremony brought together only the couple’s 90 closest friends and family and was marked by details that represented the couple’s personality. “The phrase we heard most after the wedding was that people could feel our presence in every detail of the party”, explains the bride.

One of the highlights was the look chosen by the bride. “Why not a black dress? Every bride has her dream. Some want a full lace dress, others dream of a 3 meter veil… I always dreamed of a black wedding dress. It was the way I always saw myself as a bride, it made sense to me”, explained Talita.
