And Marc O’Leary was very methodical in ‘cleaning’ the scenes of his rapes, in addition to having a very precise knowledge of how the police system worked.

O’Leary knew that the departments did not share information, so he attacked only once in each district, ensuring that the victims were different in age and appearance, and attacking at times when they were alone to avoid witnesses.

Similarly, Marc O’Leary tried to leave the rooms in which he raped them impeccable: he forced them to bathe, took their bedding and everything he had used to tie and gag them.

This modus operandi allowed him to commit 28 cases of rape in the Colorado and Washington area between 2008 and 2011, in addition to other crimes such as kidnappings and robbery.

How was Marc O’Leary captured?

In 2011, almost by chance, Sergeant Edna Hendershot and Detective Stacy Galbraith detected similarities in two rape cases from their respective districts, and realized that it could be a serial rapist.
