Lunar Eclipse: Everything You Need to Know |

Currently, most astrologers understand eclipses as a special moment of hypersensitivity to certain areas of each person’s Astral Map. This is not necessarily a negative thing, but if the individual is not very aware of the process, he may have a difficult time.

For our more distant ancestors, eclipses were cause for great fear, but for reasons that were more superstitious than noteworthy. Imagine the scene: people are working, and suddenly something seems to turn off the sun. Or devour the moon. No wonder, popular superstition attributed to such events meanings of bad omen. An eclipse would be an evil sign from the sky that would bring great suffering to the people of that region. A solar eclipse was said to be a sign of the death of a king, and the like. Our perception of things has changed, and we now know that eclipses are much more a cause for admiration and fascination than for fear.

Astrologically, the lunar eclipse can affect people’s lives, but only a consultation with a trusted astrologer will be able to detail in detail what this phenomenon can mean in your chart. In any case, we have more reasons to be fascinated by the beauty of the event than reasons to be concerned. Relax. We are no longer afraid of the big bad wolf. Not even the eclipses! The moon goes, the sky darkens, darkness dominates… but behold, the light returns in all its splendor. Particularly, this is how I see an eclipse: a sign that, even in sudden darkness, light will always return…

WHAT IS A LUNAR ECLIPSE?

Eclipses are periodic events that are as beautiful as they are thought-provoking. The total lunar eclipse is a beautiful celestial phenomenon. In these days, the Moon rises in its full phase (a fundamental condition for the occurrence of an eclipse of this kind), and already being “swallowed” by the projected shadow of our planet. If the climatic conditions of your city allow for a cloudless sky, it is really worth taking a break from your activities and giving yourself the pleasure of spending an hour looking at the moon. If you have children at home, take them to see the phenomenon. It is something that leaves a mark, which remains as a good memory and instigates curiosity for the study of Science.

Astronomically speaking, it is not difficult to understand a lunar eclipse. It occurs because the Sun projects the Earth’s shadow onto the Moon’s disk, causing it to gradually disappear over a period of time. But why don’t eclipses occur at every full moon? Simply because there is a different tilt in the Moon’s orbits around the Earth and the Earth around the Sun. For there to be a lunar eclipse, there must also be alignment, which only occurs from time to time.

HOW CAN I SEE A LUNAR ECLIPSE?

It doesn’t take any work to see an eclipse. Just identify the east cardinal point, which is where the Sun and Moon rise. Even if you don’t know where the east is, see how easy it is to identify: look where the sun is setting. East will be right behind you.

But you might wonder: “the moon is so big, so visible, I don’t even need to know where the east is to see it rise”. That’s true, but the problem is: what if where you live there are buildings blocking the view to the east? You run the risk of losing sight of the eclipse, as it won’t last all night, but just a few minutes after the Moon rises over the horizon. In this way, identify in advance where the east is, and look for a place that will allow you to see the moon rise.
