Learn two prayers to say this Lent 2021

As soon as Carnival is over, we are already looking forward to Easter. But first we have to experience the period of Lent, which begins on Ash Wednesday and goes until Good Friday.

Lent is a time for a spiritual retreat aimed at reflection, when Christians gather in prayer and meditation to prepare their spirit for the reception of the living Jesus Christ, risen on Easter Sunday. Thus, returning to spiritual questions, symbolically the Christian is being reborn, like Christ. This spiritual retreat can be done on a daily basis at work, at home, at your church or at a specific retreat.

The liturgical color of this time is purple, which usually means penance, affliction and growth. But during Lent, the color does not mean mourning, but rather shows that the church is spiritually preparing for the great feast of Easter, the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Lent is not a time of suffering, pain or sacrifice. As much as many do penance at this time – the most common are fasting and prayers, to purify the soul, mind and body – regardless of religion, Lent is a period of renewal of our mind and soul. It is a time to change our negative state of mind and turn it into a positive one. It is time to be reborn, that is, we have to kill what is no good inside us, what makes us ugly or without motivation, to make room for our new “I”. A purer and cleaner “I” in attitudes.

This is what Saint Ephren the Syrian tried to convey in his Lenten prayer:

Lent Prayer 1

“Lord and Master of my life,

remove from me the spirit of laziness,

of despondency, dominion, talkativeness,

and grant me, your servant, a spirit of integrity,

of humility, patience and love.

Yes, Lord and King,

grant to see my sins and not judge my brothers

for you are blessed forever and ever. Amen”

Remember, it’s not enough to just ask. You must also act and play your own part in the whole story.

As you meditate, here’s one more prayer for Lent:

Lent Prayer 2

“Our Father,

that you are in heaven,

during this time

of regret,

have mercy on us.

With our prayer,

our fasting

and our good works,

transform

our selfishness

in generosity.

I opened our hearts

at your word,

heal our wounds of sin,

help us to do good in this world.

That we turn the darkness

and pain into life and joy.

grant us these things

by Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Amen”
