Jonas Complex is the fear of achieving success

The “Jonah Complex” refers to a biblical story where this character, a prophet, lived in a hut. One day, God called him to go to Nineveh to talk about his works, but he refused, taking a boat in the opposite direction to the city. During the voyage, the vessel nearly sank and when the crew discovered that the incident was caused by Jonah’s disobedience, they threw him overboard. Jonah was then swallowed by a large fish; he spent three days inside it until he was finally returned to shore. After that, he accepted his mission to speak for God.

This complex refers to the person who is afraid of change, of success, of being different and, therefore, of being rejected; he prefers to renounce originality and live isolated, resigned to his fate, saying that money attracts envy and unhappiness and the best thing to do is to leave things as they are.

Those who have low self-esteem will not be able to bear success, especially if they had a relationship with problematic parents as a child; therefore, when improving their standard of living, the tendency is to boycott themselves until they fail, because they do not consider themselves worthy.

This occurs with artists, football players or young people at the beginning of their careers who feel guilty about earning more money than their parents; of course those closest to you will exploit this weakness.

While successful plans for the future are on the assumption, there is no confrontation, but if a career advancement occurs, the person even gets sick. Freud said that whoever has this complex dreams the same dreams over and over again; failure ends up becoming more comfortable than success; in fact, he constantly fears the repercussion of his words and the rejection they can cause (Freud himself, upon receiving the title of master, fell into depression and fell ill). The complex generates diseases, especially those related to the muscles that stiffen and contract.

Those who have the syndrome lose a lot of time by failing to face their goals and success, which is understandable. We all have a greater or lesser degree of anxiety and spend our lives complaining about bad luck; however, she keeps knocking on the door, but few open it, since the mental grid makes it impossible.

Stop fighting your mission, for your heart must be filled with joy. It is love combined with your vocation that makes you more confident every day.

Let go of the idea of ​​fighting yourself and trust the power of your calling to transform the world. If God calls you, it means you are ready; so don’t waste time, because few are the chosen ones.
