How did International Friendship Day come about?

Friend’s day or International Friendship Day, why have just one day on the calendar to celebrate connection when we can have more? After all, a true friend is for all hours, but we understand the confusion. But today (30), is the International Friendship Day and the date was officially suggested by General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) as part of the campaign for peace.

Who helped to choose the date was the Paraguayan doctor Ramon Artemio Brachofounder of World Friendship Crusade, which sought to highlight the importance of good coexistence among peoples. Every July 30th, the doctor called Paraguayans to come together to carry out various social and cultural activities, always with the aim of offering mutual help, thus strengthening the values ​​of friendship.

However, in Brazil we celebrate the friend on the 18th of April and the 20th of July, and the 20th of July follows the Argentine tradition, which, since 1999, uses the date of the anniversary of the trip of man to the moon as a milestone of friendship. universal. According to Enrique Ernesto Febbraro, who chose the day, the arrival of man on the moon would be the greatest symbol of union and overcoming among all human beings.

The 30th of July has the seal of approval from the UN to support the “Culture of Peace and Non-Violence” campaign. There is a document signed by the participating countries, including Brazil, which reaffirms the relevance and pertinence of the following topics: the importance of friendship as a feeling among all, the awareness that friendship between peoples, countries and cultures celebrates cultural diversity , the assertion that friendship can contribute to dialogue and solidarity, as well as involving young people and future leaders in community activities aimed at inclusion and respect between different cultures.
