Holy Week: are Thursday and Friday holidays?

Easter in 2018 will be celebrated on the day april 1st🇧🇷 The date refers to resurrection of Jesus Christ and it changes every year. In addition to Sunday, they are also remembered in the religious event to Thursday on which the Last Supper and Good Friday were celebrated🇧🇷

Are these days public holidays? A federal law states that only Good Friday is considered, in fact, as holiday🇧🇷 The rule says that the so-called “guard days” are considered religious holidays according to local tradition. These days must be regulated by specific laws and cannot exceed four days in the year.

The federal norm also makes specific reference to the Friday before Easter. “Holidays may be fixed by federal, state, or local law. Passion Friday is provided for by federal law, and is therefore considered a national holiday. The same does not occur with Maundy Thursday, Hallelujah Saturday and Easter Sunday, which will only be holidays if there is a state or municipal law that so determines”, explains Marcelo Mascaro Nascimento, partner at Mascaro Nascimento Advocacia Trabalhista.
