Who likes to play these tricks on us is the film industry, which eventually ends up releasing feature films that are very similar to each other.

We, from awesome.club, we are going to show you some very similar film duos that look more like copies of each other. Do production companies like to imitate competitors’ scripts or is it all just big coincidences? Check out!

1. Insect’s life and AntZ

Even in childhood, many people already thought Insect’s life and AntZ very similar and probably confused one with the other. Both films narrate the journey of a male ant who has the mission to save his colony, while trying to win the love of a princess. The coincidences between the two stories, however, seem to have an explanation. The case began when Jeffrey Katzenberg, who was chairman of Disney, stepped down.

He then founded DreamWorks, a new animation studio that promised to go head-to-head with Mickey’s company. The work chosen to open the works of the producer was AntZat the same time that Pixar was developing Insect’s life🇧🇷 Katzenberg is believed to have appropriated Disney’s idea, as he had confidential information about the competitor’s project. In the cartoon wars, DreamWorks managed to launch AntZ two months before Insect’s life🇧🇷

two. ET — The Extraterrestrial and Mac — The Extra-Terrestrial

An alien creature is found by a human boy. From that, an unforgettable friendship is born, at the same time that the space visitor tries to return to his family. This classic story moved many people in ET — The Extraterrestrial, from 1982, a work by Steven Spielberg, which became a symbol of that decade. The cultural impact of the feature was so great that a similar work tried to reproduce the success.

Six years later, Mac — The Extra-Terrestrial hit theaters. And the “coincidences” between the two films go far beyond the title. The story of the boy and the alien Lost who saw friends was repeated and, of course, criticism of the production rained down. While ET was featured at the Oscars, mac consecrated his failure by being nominated for the Golden Raspberry, an award that celebrates the worst releases of the season.

3. Babe the Fumbled Pig and Gordy the Hero Pig

classic of Afternoon session from TV Globo, Babe the Fumbled Pig It was part of many people’s childhood. The film, from 1995, tells the adventures of a little piglet who wants to become a shepherd, as well as the dogs on the farm where he lives. In addition to being a box office success, the production also won critical acclaim. At the Oscars, the feature was nominated in seven categories, including Best Picture, and won the statuette for Visual Effects.

At the same time that babe was released, another talking pig tried its luck on the big screen. Gordy the Hero Pig it premiered months earlier in theaters, but did not guarantee the same success as its award-winning competitor. In the story, the mammal leaves the pigpen in search of his missing family. Gordy passed unnoticed and fell into oblivion, while babe got a sequel in 1998.

4. Madagascar and Wild

Madagascar is a successful franchise among children. The first film, signed by DreamWorks in 2005, follows the adventures of a group of animals that escape from the New York zoo and end up in a forest, in the middle of an island. Next year, Wild hit theaters, with the Disney seal, presenting the same narrative: the animals leave captivity and, when they least expect it, find themselves lost in the jungle.

There are many similarities between the productions. For starters, both stories begin in the same city, at the Central Park Zoo. Both in one and in the other, the band of fugitives is led by a lion and also has a giraffe in the group. And, in both films, the characters have a forest region in Africa as their final destination. Could it be that the spying case that supposedly happened to Insect’s life and AntZ did it happen again in this situation?

5. A Quiet Place and The silence

The planet is under attack by monstrous creatures that hunt through sound. This premise startled audiences around the world in 2018, when A Quiet Place hit theaters. The feature film, which follows a family trying to protect themselves from predators with keen hearing, was one of the great successes of that period, earning awards and guaranteeing a sequel.

A year later, Netflix debuted The silence, horror production with a very similar synopsis. The characters, in a post-apocalyptic setting, live the same drama as the other film: if they want to be safe, they must not make any noise. Despite being based on a book published in 2015, the launch of the giant of the streaming he could not escape comparisons and was rejected by specialized critics.

6. The Truman Show: The Show of Life and edtv

Imagine having your life broadcast to millions of people on a television show. That’s what happened to Truman, Jim Carrey’s character in The Truman Show: The Show of Life, a 1998 hit that earned him the Golden Globe for Best Actor. Years before the format of reality shows became popular around the world, the feature already explored the theme of entertainment with real people in an innovative way.

edtv, which premiered the following year, repeated the formula. Starring Matthew McConaughey, the comedy told the story of an ordinary guy who had his real routine shown on the small screen. The character was accompanied 24 hours a day by film cameras, which recorded and transmitted his daily life. Despite the similarities with the successful film by Jim Carrey, the production suffered a failure at the box office.

7. The Auto da Compadecida and Lisbela and the Prisoner

One of the great classics of national audiovisual, The Auto da Compadecida was successful on TV, as a miniseries, in 1999, and in cinema, in the form of a feature film, in 2000. The fun language, which explored accents and dialects typical of the Northeast region, won over audiences throughout Brazil. In 2003, director Guel Arraes bet on the same formula in a new production.

Despite telling a different story, Lisbela and the Prisoner used elements that worked in the other film. Part of the cast of The Auto da Compadecida was back: in addition to the protagonist Selton Mello, Marco Nanini repeated the role of villain and Virginia Cavendish won a prominent role again. The quick dialogues and the typically northeastern setting helped rebuild the atmosphere that captivated the audience on ChicĂł and JoĂŁo Grilo’s journey.

8. armageddon and Deep Impact

Duo of classics of the catastrophe genre, these films must confuse many people even today. They were released around the same time, in 1998, just two months apart. To top it off, they dealt with exactly the same theme: a huge space body, at high speed, is about to hit the Earth, putting all life in the world at risk.

In armageddon, which was consecrated as the highest grossing of that year, there is an asteroid on a collision course with our Planet, while a group of NASA employees receives the mission to destroy the gigantic rock. Already in Deep Impactthe danger is represented by a comet, which needs to be stopped before a tragedy happens.

The story of Dante’s Inferno and Volcano: The Fury is essentially the same: a volcano erupts and endangers the population of a city.

Previously released, Dante’s Inferno was the top performer at the box office and, despite low reviews from critics, earned the title of classic. cult for fans of the genre. Volcano: The Furywhich hit the big screen later, was heavily compared to the other film and failed to achieve the same financial collection.

10. mall security and Security Out of Control

There are many similar sitcoms out there. But two movies about bumbling mall security guards, released at virtually the same time, seems like too much of a coincidence. That’s what happened in 2009, when mall security and Security Out of Control reached the big screens. The first, starring Kevin James, featured a familiar mood and did well at the box office, earning a second part that debuted years later.

The second, which brings Seth Rogen in the lead role, carried a comic and darker tone and was not a great success. In an interview, the actor revealed that the production teams of both films talked during filming, to ensure that elements such as costumes, for example, did not remain the same: “We are friends with the guys, so, literally, we exchanged photos of our wardrobes, just to make sure we weren’t stepping on each other’s toes.”

11. Invasion of the White House and The attack

The official residence of the American head of state is in danger. That’s what happens in Invasion of the White House and The attacktwo action films released in 2013. In both stories, the seat of executive power in the United States is occupied by a terrorist group, while a Secret Service agent is tasked with protecting the president of the country.

Invasion of the White House, which hit theaters first, was well received by audiences and has secured two sequels, with a third currently in development. Already The attackwhich opened months later, seems to have suffered more from comparisons, consolidating a box office below expectations.
