Fleeing forward so as not to recognize the mistakes of the past

Fleeing forward is a form of escape that many people use to avoid having to recognize and face their mistakes. This escape aims to get out of a problematic, conflictive or difficult situation by insisting on the attitude that has led us to it, in the hope that the thing will be solved with more of the same. If we do not accept our mistakes, we will not learn from the consequences and they will probably be repeated on subsequent occasions.

Fleeing forward, we try to solve conflicts with attitudes that seem decisive but that, in reality, do nothing more than postpone the moment when we have no choice but to change course and, in the process, overcome fears. Definitely, Running away does not solve the problem, it only postpones it.

The flight response was discovered and described by Walter Cannon, a Harvard physiologist. His theory maintains that this response is based on connections of a genetic system created to provide a guarantee of response to any damage. The part of the brain called the hypothalamus is responsible for initiating electrical signals and releasing chemicals in our body that stimulate the response.

Chase something and it will run away, run away from something and it will chase you

When we run away from our life

When we fill each and every hour of the day with being busy, meeting people, signing up for everything, exhibitions, concerts, checking Facebook a minimum of 8 times a day, what we are doing is running away from our lives. With so much frenetic activity, what we end up achieving is not thinking about our daily lives.

When we flee we live so disconnected that we stop thinking about who we are, if we want to have a family and what dreams we still have to realize. It’s as if we need to escape so as not to think about what we should think about. This vicious circle is what leads us to always make the same mistakes, in different circumstances and with different people.

Acceptance of the present moment is the only way we can experience true peace. We can continually long or get stuck in the past or anxious about what the future will bring.but actually when we are in the present moment, we can be aware of what is available and truly experience life.

When we spend our lives escaping from the situations we must face, Our body ends up experiencing numerous physiological changes. Endorphins, our body’s natural pain relievers, are released so that we can gain a false sense of being numb to the pain of leaving the conflictive situation.

“No matter how far you go, you will never be able to escape from yourself.”

-Neil Gaiman-

When we do not face the mistakes of the past they will return

Unaddressed negative events from the past can make it difficult for us to live in the present. To correctly deal with past mistakes we have to assume the effects of past experiences. When past experiences are left unresolved, they can produce negative psychological and physiological effects. that later it will be even more difficult for us to face.

It is important, to accept our mistakes and overcome fiascos, to stop pretending that past events do not affect us. We cannot get over yesterday until we have accepted it. If something happens that reminds us of a traumatic event or that triggers a strong emotional reaction, we must try to accept internally and calmly what we feel.

Particularly intense experiences can affect the neurochemistry of our brain. Research in neuroscience suggests that the brain has a certain “plasticity”, so this can be adapted to ceptation that it is impossible to change what happened, but we can modify the way in which we perceive it.

Running away is no way to solve a problem. You can run as fast and far as you want, but the truth is that no matter how hard you run, the problem will still be there.
