Father reports last contact with missing son in Brumadinho

Last Friday (25th), Brazil received the news of the collapse of a dam owned by Vale in Brumadinho, metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. Three years ago, the same state was devastated with the biggest environmental disaster ever recorded in the country, again caused by the rupture of a dam, this time in mariana🇧🇷

According to information from the State Fire Department and Civil Defense, so far 299 people are missing and 11 dead have already been confirmed. The metallurgical company Vale released this Saturday morning (26) a list with the names of 413 employees who worked at Mina do Feijão and who could not be reached by telephone by the company. Among them, the name of Everton Guilherme Gomesaged 20, who worked in the engineering area of ​​an outsourced company.

On social media, relatives and friends posted photos and requests for help to find the missing employee. 🇧🇷For God’s sake, I need to hear from my nephew,” wrote Everton’s aunt. “My cousin, my friend, I miss you”, commented another family member in the publication.

In an interview for the Brazilian edition of the newspaper THE COUNTRYthe father of Everton, Paulo Aniceto, said he exchanged a last WhatsApp message with his son minutes before the catastrophe in Feijão. With great affection, Paulo says that he has already looked at the last message they exchanged several times since he received the news of the dam failure.

At 12:18 pm on Friday (25), Everton responded to his father’s message saying he was in Brumadinho: “I love you! God be with you”. It was then that the father managed to send the last message before his son’s cell phone lost its signal: “Daddy loves you very much…”. At 05:30 this Saturday (26), still without news, Paulo wrote again “I love you, my son”. But the message did not reach the recipient.

The father says that this was the first time that his son went to Mina do Feijão. He used to perform services for the company in Itabirito, a town close to Brumadinho. He was hired about a month ago. “I still have hopes of finding my son. You have to have faith. We are giving the geolocation of his cell phone to the firefighters, we have to believe it”, he said anguished for the newspaper report.

The friend of the disappeared, Pamela Pinheiro, also made an appeal on the networks asking for the return of Everton. “ANDI am confident in God and I know he is watching over all of you. You will come back to me, cheerful and happy and protecting me from the world like you always have. I love you”.
