Do you know how many titles the Brazilian women’s soccer team has?

On the 7th of June, begins the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019 in France and our Brazilian team, full of remarkable women in this sport, enters the competition with 23 other nations. Our football is known for the titles won in football events (in the men’s football world competition, there are five for example). But do you know how many victories the women’s team has had? We tell you!

Before knowing the exact number of titles, let’s look back at women’s football in general. The first women’s team in the country emerged from the merger between purple Belford and Sports Club Radarboth in Rio de Janeiro, in 1981. The first games were held on the beach, not on the lawn (this only happened the following year).

Players at the time did not receive salaries, only sponsorships from other brands. Including, women were only included in the context of soccer after 1979. Until then, they were prohibited from participating in any related event.

The union of the two teams from Rio formed the basis of the first Brazilian women’s team to compete in the World Cup, in 1991, the same year the tournament began. The first edition of the Women’s Cup consecrated the United States team as champion, which beat Norway by 2×1.

Regarding titles, the Brazilian women’s team still doesn’t have a World Cup trophy (and we hope that changes soon!), but collects other very significant awards for the history of Brazilian football as a whole.

The Brazilians have already conquered seven wins at Copa America (the team is seven times champion), the most recent being in 2018, in a triumph over Colombia by 3×0. This made our girls guarantee their place in this year’s World Cup and tokyo olympic gamesin 2020.

It is worth remembering that only eight editions of the Copa America were realized. Brazil took all of them, except the 2006 one that went to the Argentina team. This is already a great milestone for our players in Brazilian football.

The Brazilian women’s team is also a three-time champion in pan-American Gameswinning in 2003, 2007 and 2015. runner-up in the 2011 edition.
