Friend’s Day: what is the “right” commemorative date?

If you were surprised by a message from Happy friend’s Day this Wednesday (18), do not be surprised. Is that April 18th, in Brazil, is one of at least three dates on which Friend’s Day is celebrated. Being an informal commemorative date – not linked to any holiday or law – it is difficult to define which is the “correct” day to celebrate friendship.

The most consecrated date in Brazil is the July 20th🇧🇷 It is on this date that our neighbors Argentina and Chile also celebrate their friendships, including the exchange of gifts. According to the United Nations, the UN, the official date would be July 30th🇧🇷 And other countries still choose to celebrate on the first Sunday of August.

In recent years, the Facebook decided to institute its own commemorative date – and with more than 2 billion users around the world, it is easy to convince people that February 4th is Friend’s Day. They chose this day because it was the creation day of the most famous social network in the world.

After all, several days of the year are considered Friend’s Day, and there’s nothing wrong with that! After all, nothing like a good excuse to meet the people we love and celebrate, right?
