Discover Ayurvedic Massage |

Famous for its relaxing effects, Ayurvedic massage can also be beneficial to health and responsible for balancing body, mind and energy. The technique, which mixes methods of Yoga and Ayurveda, detoxifies the body, makes people calmer and more patient, reduces depressive symptoms or emotional blockages, realigns posture and prevents respiratory diseases, in addition to being a great source of rejuvenation and weight loss.

According to the Indian Keshav, a specialist in the technique, Ayurvedic massage is based on three principles: vital energy, blood circulation and breathing. “As the method helps to breathe well, the body receives more oxygen, circulation works better and the person is more willing to live. When we gain little air, the organism has less vitality, which makes us tired, sad or depressed. With so many benefits, we can say that an hour of massage is equivalent to three hours of walking ”, he evaluates.

ayurvedic massage is based on three principles: vital energy, blood circulation and breathing

Massage is done through deep and vigorous touches and uses natural products, such as vegetable oil. This lubricant is heated in a container and applied at a warm temperature to the skin. Creams that contain any kind of chemistry in the formula are not allowed. The technique begins to be carried out by the patient’s spine, which is the support base of the body. After that, the movements are extended to the neck, shoulders, legs, belly, chest and face.

“The oil penetrates the skin, helping to hydrate it, giving it more elasticity, beauty and movement. To help with postural realignment and flexibility, I mix in some yoga-inspired moves and stretches. The massage can be painful at some points, as it works to release tension and stress. The best way to take advantage of the sessions is to avoid contracting the musculature, exhaling deeply. When the person manages to relax, the sexuality chakra is stimulated and he can even feel an enormous sensation of pleasure”, explains Keshav.

The massage lasts about an hour and a half and takes into account the needs of each person. According to Keshav, after seven sessions it is already possible to feel the changes. “We need to make use of some kind of weekly technique to relax from the busy routine. A lot of people worry about external things, instead of looking inside themselves. By improving circulation, Ayurvedic massage helps clear negative energies and emotional overload. Therefore, it is natural that after a session the person feels free to vent about their problems, ”he says.

The specialist believes that the best way to continue reaping the benefits after the massage is through self-observation. “Our body is the best doctor. For this reason, it is important to pay attention to yourself and analyze the possible physical imbalances that your body signals. Those who live in a loving relationship can also observe the loved one. This type of behavior stimulates self-knowledge and facilitates the early detection of problems, ”he advises.

Despite the benefits, not everyone can experience Ayurvedic massage. According to Keshav, the technique is not indicated for people who have symptoms of fever, cough, allergies or skin injuries, heart problems, labyrinthitis and broken or recently operated organs.

Ayurveda and Yoga for Health

Precursors of Ayurveda and driven by curiosity to know how the body worked, Indians used to isolate themselves in the mountains to learn from animals. Upon realizing that the animals ingested plants with healing properties to get rid of some disease, they discovered about 5,500 years ago that nature was an inexhaustible source of knowledge, protection and life. “For this reason, many Yoga postures are named after animals”, clarifies Keshav.

Massage is one of the pillars of Ayurveda. The others are: yoga, food, exercise and quality of life. “Do massages on your body to get rid of negative energies; eat healthy, avoiding fried foods and excess fat; practice physical activities and try to get to know yourself better”, he concludes.
