1. Ignore the ceremony time when choosing your makeup

Makeup artist Norman Elmer, from Crystal Hair, guarantees that it is essential to take into account the time and style of the ceremony when defining the make-up. “When the wedding is during the day, I don’t advise using a heavy foundation, or a lot of eyeshadow. It’s a cleaner, more subtle style,” says Norman. Leave your eyes well defined with dark eyeshadow or vibrant lipstick for evening ceremonies. Weddings during the day call for lighter makeup, with nude lips, soft blush and eyeliner. False eyelashes can be used.

2. Overdo it with blush

Blush is an essential item in the female makeup bag and can make all the difference in the final makeup result, as it ensures a more natural and velvety effect on the face. However, when poorly applied, either in quantity or in the shade chosen, the blush leaves the production charged and with an artificial air. “The blush should be light, in line with the bride’s skin tone, never too marked, looking like a clown”, says Norman Elmer. “Worth a light blush to give an air of health”, concludes the expert.

3. Totally change your eyebrow on the big day

Those who have very thin or short eyebrows may be tempted to redraw them with make-up, filling in, lengthening, thickening or thinning the hairs with eyeshadow or pencil. In the opinion of makeup artist Mario Rocha, from Esmell, this is one of the main mistakes made by brides, as the eyebrows interfere – and a lot – in the look and transform the face. Leaving the eyebrows with a different shape than the natural one can make the appearance fake and even unrecognizable. “Of course, gaps should be covered and filled in, but not completely modified. If the bride really doesn’t want the eyebrows she has, I advise you to surrender to micropigmentation a few months beforehand, “says Mario. That way, the family will have time to get used to the new look.

4. Don’t touch up your makeup during the party

After so many hugs, tears and, of course, a lot of fun on the runway, it’s impossible for the bride’s hair and makeup to remain intact until the end of the party. Ítalo Leite, from Werner Coiffeur, gives the tip: “If the makeup artist is not at the party, it is worth the bride or ceremonialist to have a kit to touch up the mouth and skin, which can get shiny with the anxiety and heat”.

5. Betting on trends that don’t match your style

Even though daring eyeliner or a different color of lipstick are all the rage on the catwalks at fashion weeks, only surrender to trends that really match your personal style. Otherwise you’ll look like you’re costumed at your own wedding. “It’s visible when a bride isn’t confident with her makeup. When in doubt, it’s better to avoid exaggerated looks and opt for classic beauty”, advises make-up artist Beatriz Couto.

6. Discard waterproof products

It may seem obvious, but it’s always good to remember to replace common products with water resistant ones. After all, there’s no avoiding the tears and sweat that always try to ruin a bride’s look. To prevent makeup from melting during the big day, don’t give up a long-lasting lipstick and mascara, pencils, eyeshadow and even waterproof false eyelash glue.
