8 things non-parents are tired of hearing

“Well then, when does the first heir come?” This could be a question asked Carlota Joaquina, in 1790, but many women hear similar phrases even today. That’s because there are still people who believe that motherhood is the primary mission of women on Earth. And let’s match? It’s past time to say goodbye to that thought.

It is worth remembering that combating the so-called compulsory maternity (the idea that we all MUST be mothers) does not condemn those women who want to have children – or at least it shouldn’t. Launching the debate is positive – that’s the only way we evolve – but respecting the individuality of others is something basic.

That said, let’s get to the facts: many women don’t want to have children and there’s nothing wrong with that. So here’s a list of things not to say to them anymore.

1. This is not normal. Soon, soon, that desire to be a mother will hit.

Hey? Hit that will? Son is not ice cream. Being a mother requires a lot of responsibility and some women believe that this experience simply does not belong to them. Much of what we believe to be ~normal~ is nothing more than a series of ancient conventions that have been modified throughout history. Stop and think: is everything that was considered normal at the time of our grandmothers still valid today?

2. A woman only feels complete after being a mother.

And why can a man feel complete without being a father? Thousands of women have certainly discovered a new meaning for their lives after becoming mothers. Wonderful! But that’s not a ~rule~ and it doesn’t apply to all of us.

3. You are being selfish🇧🇷

Humanity is far from extinct. Want to have kids? Go ahead! But the mission of women on Earth is not simply to generate new human beings. There are already enough people doing this.

4. Who will take care of you in your old age? Think about it.

Speaking of selfishness…

5. If you change your mind later, it might be too late!

Maternity is not a sale store. “Take that microwave while there’s still time!” We ALL know about the biological clock. Trust me, you’re not telling anything new.

6. But you don’t like children?

One thing is not necessarily linked to the other. There are pediatricians and pedagogues who are not mothers. Opting for a life without children does not mean hating children.

7. What if your husband wants to be a father?

First of all, it is not the man who has the final say in this matter. Second, if this dilemma arises in that woman’s life, this is an issue that only concerns her and her partner.

8. But being a mother was the best thing that ever happened to me!

“Good for you, colleague! Paragliding was the best thing that ever happened to ME.” Even women who choose not to have children can be moved by beautiful stories about motherhood. We are all human! But that doesn’t mean that woman changes her mind and there are a number of reasons why. Not everyone is looking for the same things in life and that’s incredibly positive!
