8 reasons to wake up at 5 am

Are you one of those people who struggle to get out of bed and would give anything to sleep “just 5 more minutes”? You’re certainly not the only one, but know that getting up early has advantages that can be better than spending a few more moments under the covers. Discover the main ones:

1. You “leave in front” of the rest of the people

Starting your day before most people does has a huge psychological advantage: by the time others are struggling to get out of bed, you will have changed, had breakfast, and started your activities.

This may seem like little, but getting rid of that feeling of waking up late makes a huge difference in our life.

2. You can better organize your day

Just because you still have a few hours before your appointments start, you’ll have plenty of time to plan your schedule for the day and prepare everything you’ll need, whether it’s study or work material or even a healthy meal to eat at the office.

3. You have more time for your stuff

Since you are awake before the rest of the world, you can use this time to do the things that you consider most important in your life, not those that become urgent due to the expectations of others.

That way, when other people’s demands start to come in, you’ll have done what you really wanted to do, and obligations are no longer a burden.

4. You work in action mode, not reaction mode

Because you are “early” in your routine and have already done what you most wanted to do, waking up at 5 am allows you to be ready to fulfill your obligations as soon as they arrive – or before someone even charges you.

So you do your activities through action rather than reaction to external demands, which would make you much more tired of putting the needs of others at the top of your priority list. That way, you keep your energy and focus, allowing you to accomplish many more tasks during the day without feeling exhausted.

5. Your productivity increases

In addition to expending less mental energy by working in action mode and not in reaction mode, which already allows you to perform more tasks, your productivity increases because waking up early allows you to start your commitments with your mood level up there.

After all, as the morning drowsiness and bad mood will have passed when you arrive at class or work, you will be ready to dedicate yourself to your activities from the first minute and you will have a greater ability to concentrate. As a result, you can handle your tasks faster and more accurately.

6. Exercises done in the morning are most beneficial

Having an exercise routine is important and already improves our health conditions, but they are even more powerful when done in the morning. At this time, physical activities accelerate metabolism and fat burning and stimulate the release of endorphins, which makes us more willing and happy for the rest of the day.

In addition, exercising in the morning helps you sleep better, while exercising at night makes us more agitated and can disrupt the quality of your sleep.

7. The biological clock will work in your favor

Our body is subject to the circadian cycle, that is, our internal clock that controls sleep, wakefulness, appetite, body temperature and the production of some hormones, among other physiological functions.

And what controls the circadian cycle is light, which regulates the production of the hormones melatonin and cortisol. Melatonin is produced at night, when it gets dark, and it is responsible for making us more sleepy, while cortisol is produced in response to morning light, causing us to wake up and enter a waking state.

So even if you like to wake up later, getting up and going to bed early makes your body work according to the natural biological clock of human beings. As a result, your periods of activity and rest are better used.

8. You end your day happier

As you had a few hours to do what you wanted to do in the early morning, when you get home after work you will have the feeling of accomplishment, which will give you more motivation to continue your projects day after day and avoid that feeling of “ make up for lost time” when you are always late.

In addition, if there is still a little time before bedtime, you can take the opportunity to relax by watching a movie or your favorite series. And that, of course, will make you much happier, as it will be possible to reconcile your commitments and your leisure activities.

So even if you can’t wake up at exactly 5:00 am, it’s worth trying to set your alarm clock forward little by little and gradually get up earlier. You will enjoy the positive changes in your life!
