8 Questions That Will Change How You Think About the Universe

1. How was everything before the Big Bang?

Therefore, this end of the universe, theoretically, cannot happen yet. But on the other hand, the mysterious dark energy that occupies about 68% of space at any given time may cause a surprise in the form of a sharp slowdown in expansion, which will be the first step towards the beginning of the end.

3. What is dark matter made of and what is dark energy?

According to scientists, approximately 95.1% of our universe consists of dark matter and dark energy: the first represents 26.8%, and the second 68.3%. The hypothesis of the existence of dark matter was published in 1922, when a British scientist, D. Jeans, and his Dutch colleague J. Kapteyn, used this term for the first time in their work, assuming that most of the material that fills the universe it’s invisible.

Despite the fact that science has advanced in the last century, the existence of dark matter remains pure theory. Although its presence is confirmed by calculations, scientists still do not have precise data on the composition of this mysterious “substance”.

4. What happens if our universe is just a simulation?

5. What happens if there are no black holes?

In 2015, Stephen Hawking solved the main “problem” of black holes: for a long time it was considered that the information that enters a black hole disappears forever without a trace. This went against some of the tenets of quantum mechanics, indicating that no information can disappear without a trace. The scientist suggested that the information of the object “swallowed” by the hole is stored in the form of a hologram. And particles coming out of a hole with Hawking radiation can read data from its surface. Thus, information does not disappear, which “reconciles” black holes with quantum mechanics.
