15 Stories About How Children’s Fantasy Is Better Than Reality

The world of children is much scarier and full of twists and turns than that of an adult. All of us, when young, had our ideas about some facts that in the end we found out that they were not exactly what we thought. We were always looking for our own explanations of events and were surprised when they didn’t match reality.

We, from awesome.club, we love children’s stories and that’s why we decided to share some of them with you. Read carefully and enjoy!

In my childhood, when I listened to Queen’s music The Show Must Go On I always thought of listening to “Show Moscow On”. He thought the song was about the Russian capital.

When I was a kid, I thought we were given change when we didn’t have enough money to pay. I still remember when, at the age of four, I got into a fight with a saleswoman. I wanted a ring that cost 10 cents and I only gave 5 cents. She was trying to explain to me that my money wasn’t enough and I was screaming: “You’re the one who should give me the last 5 cents!”

In kindergarten, for some reason, we were given compote in a plastic jar. Therefore, from childhood I thought that this dessert always had to be boiling, like tea. Until one day, in the school canteen, I took my cold jam to the cook and asked her to change it to a ‘normal’ one. They made fun of me until my graduation day.

When I was a kid, my bed was against the wall and I always slept with my back to it because I was afraid of monsters and thought that way they couldn’t reach me. I still remember when my mother would sit next to me before going to sleep. I would turn my face to the wall, smiling, knowing she would protect me.

When I was little, I always thought that I was a character in some book, and that my whole life and situations were one big story. Every time I lay down I thought they had finished reading and the book had been closed. When I woke up, it was because someone had continued to read. Today, at age 22, I still think the same thing.

As a child, I always dreamed of spending the whole weekend cleaning, but that day never came. I even took offense at my mother for it. The secret was not to accumulate dirt. But once my mother surprised me: she woke me up one Sunday after throwing a bunch of clothes on the floor. I was super happy! I felt super special for spending a whole day cleaning and tidying the house.

When I was little, I thought the word “dough” only referred to the hammer. I imagined that the bread, after entering the stomach, hit us hard. So I was afraid of this food and other foods made with flour.

I was six years old when I saw the movie The Tiger and the Dragon🇧🇷 After that, for a long time, I thought that some Chinese people could fly. I knew actors couldn’t, but I thought people could. I thought it was a special skill that developed from childhood, like a control of body energy.

In childhood, I thought that children were born without extremities, and that they appeared later. When I saw my newborn brother I screamed: “Mom, he was born with arms!”

When I was a child, I was very afraid of being under the moonlight. I thought that when that happened, the person would turn into a werewolf and kill everyone, and me too. And I convinced my brother of that. Together we looked at the lunar calendar and the weather forecast. When the sky was clear and there was a full moon, we closed the curtains quickly. And I don’t know why, but in those days we always ate garlic.

When I was young, I was very skinny, and you could almost see my ribs. I thought they were my breasts, like the ones grown women have. I tucked my belly in so that my ribs were even more visible.

As a child, I thought that if I swallowed a cat’s fur, my whole body would be covered in fur. I played with them, petted them, but pressed my lips tightly together and always ran to wash my hands afterwards. I have no idea where that came from, but I believed that very sincerely.

As a child, when I saw Pirates of the Caribbean and The fantastic chocolate factory I didn’t even suspect that the main characters were played by the same actor. When I grew up, I heard that Johnny Depp had played both roles and I was in shock for a long time.

Bonus: the missing word in our language

When I was about four years old, I invented the word ‘blur’: a mixture of snow, ice, water and mud. There was no name to define this thing, but the mix was and is real. My parents still use that word in everyday life. Our language needed a word like that.
