11 Ways to check food quality

We eat foods like eggs, fruits and bread almost every day, but we don’t always choose the best quality products. Packs with bright colors and interesting slogans tend to “seduce us”. That’s why it’s important to know some tricks on how to get the best products on the market, because our health depends a lot on it.

We, from awesome.club, we’ve put together some simple tips that can help you shop and evaluate your food like a true nutritionist. Check out!

1. Eggs must not have “dust”

Whenever you go to buy eggs, open a box and do a visual analysis. Slimy eggs can indicate the presence of bacteria. And if the eggs have some kind of “dust”this could indicate mold.

2. Identify batch and expiration date

Sometimes, to compose the date of a package, Julian calendar is used, so there is a chronological number such as “211” or “361”. If you only find one date on a product, it’s probably the expiration date. So look for yet another set of numbers in the Julian calendar if you want to find out when the food in question was produced.

3. Don’t consider phrases like “fat-free” or “all natural” on a package

Often when we see seemingly reliable phrases like “all natural” or “fat free” we believe that this is really believable. But actually, it might be a strategy to get you to buy that product specifically. And these foods can still contain preservatives, high fructose and sodium. Check, therefore, if there are these substances in the nutritional table. If you find them, continue your search to see if you can find better options.

4. Ignore the flashy colors on the packaging

The color of a product can influence our perception of it. For example, if it is green, we are more likely to think that such a product is really organic. try to ignore the colors and try to focus on the ingredients. If you can find a list of flavors and preservatives in that food, the chance that it is organic is less.

5. Reading “multigrain” written on a loaf of bread is not enough

Make sure your bread is 100% whole grain. If “wheat bread” or “multigrain bread” is written on the package, it is advisable to continue looking for other options. Grains can be refined, so most of them lose 78% of its fibers, healthy vitamins and minerals during the milling process. You can be sure that multigrain bread is only good when you make it yourself.

6. Even if it says “no added sugar” on the package, it may still contain sugar

For example, when we pick up a juice to buy, we love to read “no added sugar” written on the package, but we don’t check the nutritional information on the back of the package. This may come as a big surprise to you, but there may be, in this product, 25 to 26 grams of sugar per serving! And that’s a lot! The normal amount is 77 grams per day! So if you’re trying to stick to a healthy diet and not overdose on sugar, don’t take the “sugar free” claim completely into account.

7. Check the texture of the meat before buying it

8. Use a device to detect chemicals in fruits and vegetables

Surprisingly, some studies have shown that nutritional tables are inaccurate by up to 20%. However, there are already small food sensors that are not difficult to find nowadays. They come in different shapes and can even be connected to your phone.

9. Check if the chicken skin is gray or transparent

Most of the time, we pay attention to the overall color of the chicken, but we ignore the condition of the skin. It is very important that she is not gray or transparent🇧🇷 Well, this means that the product is not fresh and that it has been on the market for a long time.

10. Check the color of cucumbers before buying them

The best cucumbers are those dark green or green🇧🇷 Yellow and white cucumbers are not the best. Also, a good cucumber should be firm in consistency, not too thick, and should not look dry.

11. Take only bananas that have stalks
