Your life always starts today

You have surely heard or read the phrase “Live like it’s your last day”. Maybe For some it is an optimistic reflection that helps them enjoy the present, but for others, more pessimistic, it means that we are going to die, sooner or later. What group are you in?

Live your life as if today were your last day… because maybe it is. Nobody has bought or assured existence; But we don’t go around the world saying these things, it looks bad, they will take us as fatalists, “party poopers” and all the adjectives we can think of.

Have you ever stopped to think What would you do if it really was the last day of your life? Let’s not think about natural catastrophes or theories where the human species becomes extinct. Who would you like to be with? Where would you like to go? What would you like to do, say, eat?

Why wait until life is about to end to do it? If you think you would run to tell your partner that you like her, if you think you would finally say sorry to your ex-friend, if you would spend your time hugging the love of your life or if you would play with your children in the park… What are you waiting for?, What if a meteorite falls to Earth or a tsunami destroys your city?

It would be better to enjoy each day of life as if it were really your last. Live with the idea that you have “the rope for a while” but always doing what you want today. Of course, because the only thing that feeling of immortality achieves is postponing things for later.

“I’ll tell her that I’m in love with her”, “I’ll have time to ask her for forgiveness”, “I’ll spend a whole day with my partner or playing with my children”… What if that day never comes? It’s not about being pessimistic or depressing, but about thinking in perspective.

If you are doing something you don’t like right now, you have several options: stop doing it, look for the positive side, or continue as if nothing had happened (but complaining every time you have the opportunity). Why, instead of simply “existing,” don’t we dedicate ourselves to living?

Don’t let life go by as fast as a train that doesn’t stop at any station or a car that goes at maximum speed on the highway. Better to walk slowly and take breaks, admiring the landscape, the gifts that life gives you, the wonders of this planet, the love of your loved ones, the happiness of doing what you truly like.

It doesn’t matter if you are 20, 40 or 70 years old… you can always think that you are going to live forever.

Do you want to study a new career after retiring? Do it! Do you think it’s too late to take that trip you imagined as a teenager? Not at all!

Remember that you are not immortal and that life is worth enjoying today, not looking at the past nor too focused on your future. Because ultimately, The only thing we have for sure is the present.

If you believe that you are immortal, then you can, for example, travel by plane if you are afraid, jump from a parachute, climb a mountain, sail on a sailboat, scuba dive, ride the highest roller coaster in the world… But don’t wait until you’re 80 to do it… You have the chance to enjoy it today!

It doesn’t mean that you will now quit your job, leave your family and go around the world to fulfill your dreams, because that’s not what it’s about; but of start living your days more or better. You can be the happiest in the world on the couch watching a movie with your children and the unhappiest, sailing on a yacht with a million dollars in your bank account.

Don’t get caught thinking that you have a thousand years ahead of you to complete your to-do list, but don’t think that you will cease to exist today, enough to want to do everything together.
