You would have loved to know these 11 things when you were a teenager

It’s inevitable: everyone who went through adolescence had similar problems. When we think about this stage of our lives, we often think that our conflicts were unique, and that no one would be able to understand them. During their adolescence, many young women used to think that only that handsome guy at school could understand them, and that there would be no one like him in the whole world. For him, they sigh and even believe they are in love. But in many cases, that guy who seemed special turns out to be a tremendous idiot, and the teenager doesn’t even realize that she was surrounded by other people, much more pleasant and understanding. Ah, if only we could send a letter to ourselves as teenagers…

O awesome.club gathered 11 items that this imaginary letter could have. So: would you include them in yours?

1. Failure is the best thing that can happen to you

Making mistakes is always embarrassing. But the good thing is that we can learn a lot from them. And it’s better to be a teenager who tries but fails than an adult who can’t make it.

The older ones, by the way, also fail. What matters is learning as much as possible from your own failures, turning them into new skills.

2. Learn to take care of yourself first

It’s not a question of being selfish, quite the opposite. In order to help others, you must learn to take care of yourself. You need to set boundaries, eliminate negativity, start meditating and charge your energy levels, filter out people who are not motivating. On the physical side, it is important to develop habits such as using sunscreen and drinking plenty of water. By keeping yourself healthy, happy and attractive, you will feel more confident in yourself and can attract and do good to more people.

3. “Popular” people aren’t always the nicest

Generally, the people who were popular at school aren’t actually the most interesting. Their behavior is like a defense mechanism, and believe it or not, they also deal with their frustrations, though they never admit it. When a person’s beauty reaches its peak in adolescence, it’s likely to fade faster. On the other hand, those considered weird or geeks tend to gain more confidence over time, demonstrating that they really are the most interesting and popular people.

4. High school and university can be oversized

Let’s get one thing straight: education is important, of course, but stressing yourself to always get the best grades in your class is something you don’t need. The same goes for expensive student loans. Unless you want to be a scientist, researcher, doctor or have another similar profession, a doctorate will not be much needed in your life. It’s better to invest time and money in what you really like and what you do well. Even if you fail, you will have a great chance to discover what you should do with your life, starting to dedicate yourself to something that will really make a difference.

5. There will always be other people

You will get over it, no matter if the subject is a romantic relationship or a friendship. Life goes on. Even if the ending wasn’t pleasant, just thank that person for being a part of your life, and let them go. One day, you will understand that people come and go, and that has nothing to do with their attitudes. It’s just the way things go. The reality of life changes, just like people.

Everyone who passes through your life leaves a lesson. When they’re gone, it’s because you’ve learned something. More people will emerge, and when you’re ready, that real special someone will appear.

6. Growing up won’t bring all the answers

At 25 or 30, you will have as many questions as you did in your teens. We guarantee. There will be different orientation needs, but you will still have questions about relationships, career, plans for the future, among other things. The important thing is that you trust only yourself with the fundamental decisions that can change your life.

7. Your attitude will change

You will change your mind more often than you think. Whether it’s politics, religion or music, the way you thought at 16 won’t be the same 5 years later. This doesn’t mean a renunciation of your principles, just that you are growing and becoming more flexible. By understanding this, you can not only accept different points of view, but also be more successful in expressing your own opinions.

8. Take advantage of opportunities

As a teenager, you may spend most of your time playing video games or taking advantage of opportunities that come your way. Many activities serve to broaden horizons, such as traveling, sharing experiences with parents, taking boxing or Latin dance classes. Or maybe spend time volunteering on a farm. All of this would be amazing! Even a school trip to a neighboring city can already be useful to improve the way you see things, making it easier to understand what you should do with your life in the future.

9. There’s always dessert

Simply accept the fact that your body will never be perfect, for that doesn’t exist. What you need to develop is your attitude and love your body. Thus, you can take care of him by consuming healthy foods, drinking plenty of water and sleeping well. Your body will thank you and you will look great even if you can’t see it. It’s all about self-confidence. Here’s the tip: don’t give up desserts and don’t blame yourself for it. But take care of your body.

10. Butterflies in the stomach don’t always mean love

Not always the exchanges of looks, the smiles and the butterflies that seem to fly in the stomach mean love. All of this could just be a result of your emotions and hormones. True falling in love (we’re not talking “they lived happily ever after” soap opera endings) involves the deliberate choices made by 2 adults. And we’re not even referring to age, but the personal ability to make decisions and take responsibility for them. There is love and desire, so it is very important to know how to differentiate one from the other.

11. Your parents went through the same things

If you think your parents are your worst enemies, remember that they too were teenagers and went through similar situations. If they’re strict today, it’s probably because they remember the stupid things they did when they were young and worry about you and the consequences that could follow if you do what they did. Instead of fighting over anything, it makes more sense to have a conversation and try to understand why your parents act the way they do. It can be a difficult task, but whoever manages to accomplish it gives a great proof of maturity.

It doesn’t matter if you were a nerd or a popular hottie during your teen years. The fact is, adulthood arrives and we all need to make our own decisions. Leave your comment telling what you would say to your teenage self if you had the chance.
