Why should we never chase and eliminate geckos and small lizards

Some people say geckos have superpowers. First, they seem to not respect gravity (their paws “stick” to the walls and ceiling); in addition, they have an enviable night vision. But despite all this, when a person sees a gecko or a small lizard in the garden, the first impulse is usually to get rid of them as quickly as possible, which should not happen.

They feed on dangerous insects

Some people are very afraid of reptiles, and some of them are really dangerous. However, in addition to not posing a threat, most are useful to humans. Geckos, for example, feed on insects that we often struggle to eliminate, such as cockroaches, flies, spiders, termites and wasps.

If a small lizard decides to live in your garden, it means that he considers the place to be clean and ecological.

Lizards suffer a lot from the different chemicals and toxics produced by man. So if they start to appear in your garden, it means that they consider the environment a good place to live. Also, as insects often mutate and become resistant to insecticides, lizards and geckos are the most natural way to get rid of garden pests.

Unlike birds, lizards will not eat anything from your garden.

They are not dangerous to humans

Although it sometimes seems that geckos have superpowers because they can easily walk along walls and ceilings, they are not dangerous. Common house geckos are non-venomous and pose no threat to humans (they only bite when they feel threatened); in fact, they do a great service by feeding on the pests that we also have in the house.

Some lizards can transmit salmonella

Like many other reptiles, geckos can transmit salmonella. But this does not happen through the bite, but through the feces. So if you find gecko droppings on something, wash it well, don’t touch it, and don’t let animals like dogs and cats near it.
