Why just loving isn’t enough

In our childhood and adolescence, we often dream about love. We thought about what it would be like if our heart beat faster for someone, on our first date, at the first kiss. But above all, we think about the feeling of love and what it would be like to have it and live it in our life.

And then the years go by and you get to the age of starting to love. So you start giving your heart to people who don’t deserve it. Because you want to feel love — after all, you’ve always dreamed of it.

And then you grow. Feelings come and you meet someone and start a relationship with that person. But as the years go by, things start to not be as beautiful as they used to be. Love doesn’t have the same smell, the same taste, the same vigor that you witnessed so much in your childhood dreams.

“We love each other… why aren’t things working out more between us?”

You begin to realize that the relationship is like a home. You built it, but it collapsed because the foundation you built it on wasn’t strong enough to withstand the storms, the cold, the winds…

A foundation is lacking to secure the walls of this house and ensure that it stands firm for when the rain comes.

Love is loyalty and honesty that never fades. It’s compassion, empathy and a little tea for when the other needs a shoulder to cry on.

Love is talking for hours and hours. It’s letting go. It’s crying together. It is to laugh, to rejoice, to celebrate, to conquer. It’s about the way the two of you react when things get rough and the sunny day turns cloudy.

And that’s when you realize that love has nothing to do with feeling; it has no taste, no smell and is very different from what you dreamed of in your childhood. Love is actually the foundation on which you must build your house.
