What is the Wesak Festival |

The Sun is in Taurus and then the first Full Moon arrives: this is the day of the Wesak Festival. In Eastern tradition, this date is called Buddha’s Day, marking his enlightenment and death.

In Buddhism – which is a philosophy without a religious orientation – in the fifth century (before the common era), Siddhartha was a prince born in a region that is now known as Nepal. He would have left his wealth and possessions behind to seek the true meaning of life, and he would have achieved this goal on the day of the first Full Moon under the Sun of Taurus.

How to Celebrate Wesak

The Wesak Festival is a special date in the Eastern calendar, considered by many to be the most powerful day of the year. According to tradition, Buddha would descend on Earth during this Full Moon, showering a shower of energy and blessings.

Because of this, sympathizers of eastern traditions linked to spirituality perform intense and fervent meditations, in which they make requests to Gautama Buddha and also give thanks for the good things received.

Each country where Buddhist culture is present celebrates Wesak in a different way. Usually, the date is preceded by:

In some countries, lanterns decorate houses and people wear white clothes. They also often pour water over the Buddha’s shoulders to indicate that people need to clear their minds of attachment, anger and fear.

This moment is marked by the energies of wisdom, love and conscience, bringing opportunities for ascension and enlightenment.

In Brazil, meditations must begin on the night of April 26, 2021.

Wesak and Astrology

For Astrology, it makes sense that it is a special Full Moon, since the sign of Taurus is about the energy of abundance. Taurus has a great connection with Mother Earth, and every Full Moon marks its apogee, hence being a day of “rain of blessings”.

An astrological subtlety, however, is that Scorpio, the opposite and complementary sign to Taurus, in which the Moon will be in 2021, has to do with the cleaning and purification process. So, it would be a suggestion not only to ask for good things, but also to forgive, release resentments, clean up, as well as pray for the completion of cycles that need to go.
