What is profileplasty? – GOOD SHAPE

One of the most common complaints in plastic surgery offices is the size of the nose. It is no wonder then that rhinoplasty is among the procedures most performed by Brazilians. However, what few people know is that, many times, it is not the nose that is responsible for the aesthetic discomfort, but the chin. This is because the size of the chin can increase or decrease the perceived size of the nose.

When the perception of facial harmony is affected due to the size of the chin, it is not enough to treat only the nose. In these cases, the recommendation is to perform a mentoplasty. Mentoplasty aims to treat the imbalance between the size of the middle third and the lower third of the face by manipulating the structures that make up the chin. In cases where the chin is too small or retracted, for example, the procedure can be done through implantation of chin prostheses or bone advancement. When there is projection of the structure forward, the problem is treated surgically, with the reduction of the bone part and the application of plates and screws.

But, in some cases, just having a rhinoplasty or mentoplasty is not enough to make the patient satisfied with their profile. Ideally, a profileplasty should be performed, which allows correcting the disproportion between the chin and the nose in just one single procedure, thus helping to significantly improve facial harmony and, consequently, the patient’s self-esteem and confidence, since the nose and the chin are fundamental areas for the aesthetics of the face.
