What do you know about hair micropigmentation? – GOOD SHAPE

Often, all we want is practicality. Just like eyelash extensions and eyebrow micropigmentation, whether you spend a lot of time trying to hide your hair loss or looking for hair growth solutions that really work, scalp micropigmentation can make your life a lot easier.

While it’s not a replacement for other hair-growing techniques, the idea is that the technique will fill in the missing areas and make your hair look thicker.

WHAT IS HAIR MICROPIGMENTATION?

Scalp micropigmentation is a semi-permanent way to hide hair loss using pigment or dye. As with permanent makeup (and micropigmentation in other areas), it is handcrafted on the skin. “This can be done with a tattoo machine or hand tool, creating small dots that, when spaced apart, create a shadowed effect.” says esthetician Courtney Benvisto, founder of microblading salon Ramon Padilla.

4 BENEFITS OF HAIR MICROPIGMENTATION

1

IMMEDIATE RESULTS

The treatment offers immediate results, as well as all micropigmentation. It is possible to leave the office with a better appearance of capillary filling. Who doesn’t like instant gratification?

two

GREATER CONTROL OVER RESULTS

Since it’s a handcrafted treatment, you have a little more say when it comes to the final look. “You can dictate the volume, or how far you want to go on your forehead and temples. This is not possible with treatments like hair growth formulas,” says Raom Padilha, founder and creative director of EverTrue Microblading Salon.

PIGMENT LAST UP TO 18 MONTHS

Scalp micropigmentation can last from 12 to 18 months, depending. “Results vary based on skin type, sun exposure and how often you wash your hair,” says dermatologist Robin Blum. “It is not recommended for people with oily skin or people with a lot of sun exposure – because it fades faster.”

LESS PAINFUL THAN HAIR TRANSPLANTATION

While not entirely painless, experts agree that micropigmentation is less painful than most hair transplant methods.

HOW TO PREPARE THE SCALP FOR THE PROCEDURE

First of all, it is important to look for a professional in the technique, such as beauticians or dermatologists. Once you’ve found someone you’re comfortable with, you can figure out which pigment you’re looking for, which will look best, and find the best shade. It is recommended to appear with the scalp fully clean, avoiding alcohol for 24 hours before the consultation.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE PROCEDURE?

Although scalp micropigmentation is less painful than other hair transplant methods, it is not completely painless. After all, there are needles and blades involved. “Prior to the procedure, patients are anesthetized with topical numbing cream,” says dermatologist Arash Akhavan. Once the area is numb, the technician will use the tattoo machine to create dots or strokes into which the pigment is incorporated, filling in spots on the scalp that show sparse hair or balding.

“The level of pain depends on the patient’s pain tolerance, but the numbing cream helps and the movements are very light, so it’s not too painful. The sensation can be compared to an itch,” says Akhavan. She adds that the process can take anywhere from two to five hours, depending on the size of the treatment area, and it can take more than one session to get the exact coverage you want.

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS?

If you are prone to keloids, scalp micropigmentation is not the best option. This treatment is also not recommended if you are pregnant, nursing, or taking any blood-thinning medication (although it is a good treatment for postpartum hair loss).
