It’s not just your body that needs to be tough to survive a CrossFit workout. Your sneakers should also have some specific finishes to help with workouts and have more durability. Our art editor, Miro Branco – who has been training the sport for a year – put three launches to the test.

Nike’s Metcon 3

(Nike/Disclosure)

note: 9.5

Price: BRL 550

“Lightweight and comfortable for cardio time, the shoe has a non-slip sole that didn’t slip when I ran in the rain during the WOD. I liked the rough laces – they don’t untie – and the protection on the heel, which serves as a support on the wall to perform the HSPU (an upside down push-up). Although the side of the Metcon has a design designed to help climb the rope, its grip still needs improvement. Out of the three options, it is my favorite because it adapts to different exercises, being stable for Olympic weightlifting and firm for box jumping.”

“While the new heel guard resists HSPU, the anatomically shaped sockliner ensures more stability during Olympic weightlifting. Extra point for the texture of the side of the sole, which sticks to the rope when going up and slides easily when going down. On the other hand, the shoe is too tight and ended up hurting my instep (with the Nano 6, that didn’t happen). And for running and jumping on the box, the structure proved to be too stiff.”

Minimus 40 by New Balance

(New Balance/Disclosure)

note: 8.0

Price: BRL 500

(White Miro/)

“The Minimus 40 surprised me the first time I used it: comfortable, anatomical and light to the point that it felt like I was barefoot. It worked great for climbing the rope and running. But it proved to be unstable during Olympic weightlifting, especially in the front, which is very loose (my feet were dancing inside the shoes), which disturbs my balance.”
