Wakeboard: what is the sport practiced by the son of Huck and Angelica

Benicio Huckthe middle child of Angelica and Luciano Huckhad an accident while practicing wakeboard last Saturday (22). The 11-year-old boy had to undergo surgery. Fortunately, he is doing well, according to a statement released by Luciano.

But what, after all, is this sport that Benicio was practicing? It is a variation of surfing.

In wakeboarding, a board similar to a snowboard is used, with boots attached. At the same time as the person is standing on the board, he needs to hold on to a cable attached to a moving boat.

With the waves formed by the boat, it is possible to perform maneuvers in the air. The sport can be practiced at sea, in rivers or in large lakes.

This modality emerged as an alternative for surfers on days when the sea does not have good waves. Created in the United States in the late 1970s, the sport arrived in Brazil only in the 1990s.

Wakeboarding has already been quoted to enter the Olympic Games, but will not be present in Tokyo next year. Even so, the modality is part of the Pan American Games and the Brazilian athlete Marcelo GiardiO Mallard, is a medalist in the modality. He won gold at the 2007 Games and silver in 2011.
