tries out: Fit Dance –

Dancing is on the rise — and TikTok may say so. There are several challenges with simple or not-so-simple choreography (who remembers the WAP music challenge?) being reproduced more and more on social networks, and the desire to learn to move the mastery body only grows.

I, on the other hand, have never been the most graceful person for dancing. I move in a way… Weird, when it comes to dancing.

But how is the saying? “Dance like no one is watching”? I try to put this into practice. After all, the benefits of moving your body outweigh the embarrassment, right?

That’s why we tested a Fit Dance class at the BodyTech academy, to tell you who are still ashamed about the experience:

BENEFITS OF FIT DANCE

According to a study published in The New England Journal of Medicine, dancing can improve your memory and prevent you from developing dementia as you age. Science reveals that aerobic exercise can reverse volume loss in the hippocampus, the part of the brain that controls memory. The hippocampus naturally shrinks during late adulthood, which often leads to memory impairment and sometimes dementia.

Movements increase flexibility and reduce stiffness.

If you are feeling tense or stressed, dance! In a controlled study in the Journal of Applied Gerontology, researchers found that dancing and musical accompaniment can help relieve stress.

Dancing really does lift your spirits, according to a study that tested the effects of dancing on people with depression. Patients who participated in a lively group dance had the fewest symptoms of depression and the most vitality.

Dancing is a great activity for those at risk for cardiovascular disease. People with heart failure who started dancing improved their heart health, breathing and quality of life significantly compared to those who cycled or walked on a treadmill to exercise, an Italian study found.

Bored with your bike? A study published in the Journal of Physiological Anthropology found that an exercise program of aerobic dance training is just as helpful for losing weight as cycling and jogging.

If you’re nervous about falling as you age, a few dance classes can help ease your worries, according to a study in the Journal of Aging and Physical Activity that showed tango dancing can improve balance in adults. Older. Dancing requires a lot of fast movement and good posture, so dancing often will help you stabilize and gain better body control.

Research published in The Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition found that a weekly dance program can improve physical performance and increase energy levels among adults.

Seeing how your body moves and what it can do makes you feel good about yourself and that goes beyond aesthetics. After all, you start to appreciate your body for what it gives you: the ability to do amazing things, not for how it looks.

Let’s have fun and forget about the trials? (10’000 Hours/Getty Images)

Like I said, I don’t mind being totally gangly when I’m dancing — I certainly wouldn’t be defined as the sexiest person on the dance floor. But Fit Dance has an extra level: coordination.

Not that it’s imperative that you do the exercises perfectly: it’s not at all.

But you need to know how to reproduce the steps that the teacher in front of you is going through and that for me is very difficult.

When you look around, it seems that all the other students already know it by heart and only you are lost.

And they know. What happens is that the teacher always shows some new dances — these explained more slowly and step-by-step. But to warm up, he starts with dances that have already been passed in previous classes.

Of course, he still gives all the instructions for these “old” choreographies, but in a faster way than the “new” ones. And what does that mean? That yes, you will also get there. In the next class, you’ll already be dancing to the new song that was passed better than those who are seeing it for the first time and you’ll sympathize with the new students — as happened to you, since everyone welcomes you and nobody judges you in any way .

Although the class is done in a group, the exercise is individual so you go at your own pace. Want to skip a few steps? It’s your choice, it won’t bother anyone else.

By the end of the first dance, you already feel like you’ve burned all the calories possible, but bear with it because you still have a lot more — and you’ll do them with a smile on your face, I guarantee it.

CONCLUSION

The class is fun and really makes you sweat. Confidence, for me, came at specific moments, when I looked in the mirror and saw that my body was managing to reproduce that movement. At other times, however, you feel like an entirely different species than the dancing beings at the gym. But that’s normal and the secret is consistency to soon feel like Beyoncé herself.

I recommend the class for anyone looking for a fun cardio exercise, for those who like group exercises and also for those who don’t, since, as I said, your progress is individual but the feeling of belonging is present even with few interactions.

This class was done through Gympass, a benefit that allows you to practice different modalities in several gyms paying just one monthly fee.
